I did the exact same thing. Yes, all the cables come from the left on mine as well. It was actually fairly easy to figure out once I was looking at it.
OK folks. Two 31s installed and the beast is alive. I will be modifying the box a little and will probably make some new cables. I feel good about it.
Funny little side note - I buy my truck batteries from a local small business that sells blems, used, and reconditioned batteries. I always...
And it's been a good one! Some good info. I had no idea about the Alt/Generator charging issue. That aspect of how to set up your vehicle never occurred to me and it's kind of a big deal.
So, I'm going to go with two batteries. Four just doesn't seem to make any sense; financially or otherwise.
How do I identify the 24V vs 12V cable? Maybe it will be obvious when I look at it, but the only cables I recall being obvious are the NATO plug wires.
I remember why I went 34. Optima made an adapter plate for converting 6tl to a Red Top 34. I just went with the 34 from there. That's science, right?😂
Yes. All of this. I have no doubt the batteries suffered. I had to charge them a couple times. I was not aware of the trans draw or alternator issue, but it makes sense. I have purchased a 24v solar charger to install.
Why are AGMs a problem?
Interestingly, doing a little research, I have found that the 34 series batteries, from Optima Reds to the store brands, have more CCAs than 6tls. The 6tls shine (big time!) in reserve capacity.
...at least for me.
I know the battery discussion has been done many times and it's quite obvious that you can operate without spending on 6t's. But my question here is, is it the best option? In other words, there is a part of me that thinks the vehicle should be set up as it was engineered...
Replaced all three lines. Running like a champ! Let this be a warning to all! Check the fuel lines regularly. It's an easy and quick replacement, but if you were out having fun when one decided to go, it could be a real pain! Thanks coachgeo.
That's the plan. I'm replacing all but the vent hose as well as fuel filter and water separator. I would assume changing the filters is a good idea, but if not please let me know. The separator was $50!
Had the hoses made today. More than I expected. $230. I'd do it different next time...
So went over and primed the system and...you nailed it with air in the system. There may still be a fuel issue, but when I primed it fuel started leaking from the line between the regulator and the separator. It was also leaking from what I guess is the return line. The cracks / dry rot...
Hi all. Plugging back in to SS and getting back into my trucks after a long year or so absence. Insanely busy work year.
Anyway, the M1078 was sitting for about a year in the lot at my warehouse. Charged the batteries and it fired right up! WhoooHooo! It idled a little rough, but ran for...
Repaired wires and everything came back to life. Make sure the loom comes up high enough and zip tie / secure the harness away from the moving linkage.
I would suggest everyone check this area on their trucks. I doubt mine is the only one with this potential headache. As the old saying...
