Time for new starter solenoid? M816 wrecker

You mean this thing? Man, I can tell you that I never even noticed it before. OK, I agree, the problem probably lies in the PCB. I'll put the starter back in, and perform the testing recommended. May have to start shopping for one of these PCBs soon. Thanks for all the replies!

Time for new starter solenoid? M816 wrecker

1980 M816 wrecker with NH250 Cummins and Prestolite starter. Apologies if this has been asked before. I did a few searches and did not find any posts that contained symptoms like mine. This wrecker had not been started in a couple of years. The last time I started it, everything worked fine...

Anyone seen a larc v for parts?

There's two LARCs in town here at an automobile salvage yard, but I think they are complete vehicles that run. I heard that the owner wants $25K apiece. I have a photo of one of them, that I took when he had it parked out front. The other is in the back - have never seen that one. I can give...

    G749 preservation

Jason, yes it is Glen's. Still belongs to him. He made a great start on this M135 project back in the mid to late 90s. Would love to see it finished.

Here's an M135 that's been sitting around here for quite some time. We started it up about 7 years ago.

    1959 m139 Bridge truck

Please post some photos of your bridge truck. My first army truck was an M328, a 1954 gasser. Owned it for about six years. I think it was made by ?International?, if that's possible. I sold it in 1994 in New Orleans. Great memories, but a huge money pit. I have tons of photos but they...

28 yr old hydraulic oil - should I use it?

My M816 wrecker developed a leak in one of the hydraulic lines. I replaced the line and checked the level in my hydraulic tank. The tank is only about 1/3 full. I checked the archives and discovered that the correct fluid to use is SAE10 motor oil. I found a local supplier at $54.00 for a 5...

Getting Deuce from Georgia with no Title or SF-97 back to Louisiana

Is there something about the Georgia deuce that makes it desireable? If not, I would forget about it and buy a rig with a title and buy in state (or at least somewhere closer than Georgia). You will save a ton of money and spare yourself huge headaches. Aren't there some deuces on GL right...

How much is this LARC worth?

There is a LARC at a local auto parts dismantler here in Lafayette. Not sure if its complete or if it runs. It appeared complete from the outside. He may have sold it by now. I took a couple of photos of it about a year or two ago. I'd have to dig the photos up if anyone is interested in...

Saw deuce today I-20 Westbound at AL-MS border

Any SS member by chance? I was in my car and I saw him driving on Interstate 20 westbound at the Alabama-Mississippi border at aroung noon - 1PM today. Truck had a soft top on the cab (no canvas on the bed) and looked like it had just come out of the GL lot. Sorry but I could not get a photo...

    junk yard find

We are like kids in a candy store. Sure wish that pile of "junk" was sitting at a local wrecking yard! I would drag the whole thing home. Randy, I've been looking for a dipstick/filler cap for the hydraulic tank on my wrecker. From the photos, I can't tell if its there. Can you check next...

    which generator/s for motorhome project?

I vote Onan CCK - a motor home generator. Find one for about $100. Cheap, quiet, reliable - only shortcoming I see in using it is the hassle of hauling gasoline and delivering it to the mounted unit.

Deuce hiding out in the woods

I emailed Glen regarding the above pictured M135. Here's what he said: Yea, its for sale. $3,000 cash Running when parked, winch works. All six tires only have a few miles on them, but not sure of condition. Have spare carb and NOS carb kits. Have complete set of new wheel cylinders, NOS...

Deuce hiding out in the woods

I took these photos today. Located in Lafayette. Belongs to Glen Thib. I can provide contact info on request. I've seen him start and drive this truck, but I know it hasn't been started in several years. It was driven on public roads to its current resting place.

Deuce hiding out in the woods

Hey Tim, Glen Thibodeaux has an M135 in Lafayette that he hasn't played with for years. I know he has tried to sell it in the past. I saw him start it and drive it about 5-7 years ago. Its in rough shape. Early to mid 1950's. Sitting on one flat. It has 11.00x20s on it, singles in the...
