Cat 3116 potential issues and solutions

Ahh. I didn't realize the coolant and injectors came into contact. If there are contaminants in coolant, they are not visually detectable. It also smells like coolant (not diesel). I'll pull some fuel off the bottom of the tank this week to see if there's any coolant in there. And study up...

Cat 3116 potential issues and solutions

Hey All, Still working thru initial diagnosis on my 1078. One of the more troubling issues/symptoms is that the radiator cap is immediately pressurized (and venting) upon starting engine. There may be other causes (that I can't think of), but that tends to point to a failed headgasket (or...

    Alternator/Vreg/Gauge charging question.

I thought about tapping it harder, but I didn't have a hammer within reach, so I tried Ronmar's method. At the test points I got 27.7V and at the NATO port I got 28.8 Seems like all is in order (except gauge). After about a 20 min warmup, the gauge was reading correctly. Thanks all.

Help identifying p/n for winch PTO and pump

Hey All, Another question.. I'm trying to get ahold of a PTO and hyd pump for my 1078 so I can run a crane. The winch parts would provide correct flow rate and pressure. Digging thru the parts list TM I get: B550133364 for the pump (Can't seem to ID brand) parker p/n 276XMFJX-D5XK for...

    Alternator/Vreg/Gauge charging question.

That's the first thing I did. Always tap the gauge... Didn't work though.

    Alternator/Vreg/Gauge charging question.

Hey All, I have a '95 1078 that is showing some odd symptoms... To start with, I don't use it much (right now), about 10-15 min every couple weeks. I don't have much time to work/play with it, so I keep usage minimal until I understand all its quirks. So, starting a month or so ago, I...

Deuce Billet Dual Fuel Filter Assembly

Hey Rustystud, I'm not sure if I should reply or just keep quiet. No progress to report. The prototype is still working well on my truck, and a few months ago I made the small updates to the CNC code that I wanted to make. But, I'm working 60+ hrs per week right now and that...

Deuce Billet Dual Fuel Filter Assembly

Whoa.... Has it been that long... Seems as though life gets in the way sometimes. I'm not gone. Just busy. Been working on a broken excavator I bought recently. Don't give up on those filters (but don't hold your breath either). I have all the materials and presently have hopes to get...

Deuce Billet Dual Fuel Filter Assembly

Ha! Sorry about the radio silence folks. Been busy around here. And the view ahead looks pretty busy too. So the status on this: I have the prototype running on my truck. I wanted to get some miles on it before I made the next version. Last week I ordered the material I need to make several...

I beat the fuel fitting... And a thread for all the other mods to my deuce

The modeling I've done so far has been in ProEngineer. However I'm switching over to Onshape (see www.onshape.com). I'd be happy to share the models I have, though I have very little of the frame modeled. I need to model more as well, because I'm getting started on converting mine to a...

    Fording Project

When the valve is powered off, and the solenoid open and venting to atmosphere, what is the regulator doing? Wouldn't it be driving (or trying to) 3 psi to atmosphere? Or do you dial "off" the regulator when not in use? So to turn on, you flip solenoid switch, and dial regulator from zero to...

    Fording Project

Hey Rustystud! Excellent project! Regarding your switching solenoid valve, are you using a 3-way valve (I think you need to be)? If so, you may have difficulty with your Chinese version too. Most 3 way solenoid valves are not direct acting. Meaning you need some pressure in system lines to...

I beat the fuel fitting... And a thread for all the other mods to my deuce

Ahh. Very interesting. Looks like the restrictor also acts as a seal between the block and the end cap. That is a little harder to duplicate, but I'm not sure it's necessary. Also, for what it's worth, the datasheet on mine EL13020, mentions putting a pipe plug in the base hole if you aren't...

I beat the fuel fitting... And a thread for all the other mods to my deuce

Seat Bracket and Seat Mods: So once the airbag conversion was done, I now needed to mount my MRAP seat. There are several threads on ways of doing this. Usually a flat plate does the trick. But that seemed way to easy and direct... Looking at the seat, it's an interesting combo of metric and...

I beat the fuel fitting... And a thread for all the other mods to my deuce

Well, switching the driver's seat over to the folding MRAP type and converting to air-ride from spring ride took a little more work than I anticipated... Here are the details. From an older thread about the conversion...

    Head Gasket Repair

There are two types. The original, which has separate fire rings, and the "new style" which has integrated fire rings. I didn't see evidence of different brands (but I could have missed that) What I read, suggested that the new style is better, but I never found any real reason why. Seems...
