What have you done to your FMTV or LMTV today

What a difference, Godspeed131! What headlights and led bulbs did you use? imitation is the sincerest form of flattery ;)

What have you done to your FMTV or LMTV today

Rather than buying a turret cover and paying crazy shipping, I cut one out of a 4’ square of 1/8” steel, welded on two bars to keep it from flexing, and through a little color on it. I used a 1/4” rubber gasket and bolted it down. Pretty happy for a project under $200. The truck came from 1st...

LMTV foot brake / treadle valve rebuild kit

Did you ever rebuild the brake pedal valve with your kit? I found the kit for 19 euros and wonder how it worked out seeing as everyone in the states want about $200.

Michelin XZL vs Michelin XML vs Michelin XL vs Goodyear AT-3A vs Goodyear AT-2A any others that are 14.00 or larger that are any good?

Superthermal, I cant speak to the continental or pirelli tires...but I've had quite a bit a time with several others. First, I will say I love the look of the Goodyear MVT and don't have any complaints with them so that is what I run on my current truck. They look a lot like the XZL, which...

Things I am really glad I did to LMTV

I love the idea of removing a leaf from the rear spring pack olly hondro! I hate the sewer sniffer rake and personally don't have much in the bed that would ever weigh the back down enough. Like you, I've reduced to two batteries in every one of my trucks and never had an issue, even at 54 below...

What did you do to your M939 today?

Replaced the fuel shutoff solenoid on my 934. Does anyone know what the arm that is bolted onto the fuel pump and is manipulated by the solenoid is called? I can only describe it as a rocker lever and mine has a crack. Searching for a replacement.

What did you do to your M939 today?

Another pic of the mods to the side piece on the Reese receiver

    EUC Approved

I purchased and paid for the truck on June 20, 2019. EUCs and titling documents both fall under the purview of the DLA, which definitely is not closed. After calling gov planet every week for several months following the purchase, and getting nowhere, I reached out directly to a contact in the...

What did you do to your M939 today?

its a v-6. I reversed the outside brackets when I cut them and added the 6” plate. With the lips turned in the width is perfect. The plates put it at a perfect height not to interfere with function of the pintel hitch. Two of the three holes on each side of the Reese hitch even lined up with...

What did you do to your M939 today?

Installed a Reese receiver for the big truck. Sometimes you just don’t need the pintle hitch and the reese with a 6” drop has worked for me on the last couple trucks. No issues towing a 20’ boat. I’ve also started stripping the accessories along the frame to remove the expansible van body. It’s...

    EUC Approved

I called gov planet again today to find the status on my documents. I purchased and paid for the truck a year ago, next week. This time, their excuse was that “the DLA is closed”. Obviously this is not the case. Some EUCs are still getting approved. Gov planet/ Ritchie bros is truly just about...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

I’ve also started swapping all the electrical gauges to mechanical like the air pressure gauges are. I went for high vis...a little surprised to see 60psi on the oil pressure though. Next up are the engine and trans temps.

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

I swapped the alternator on my 934a2....Thanks to all the help from everyone blazing the trail in the electrical forum! Used a Wilson alternator 90-01-4152, Cummins bracket 3929418, pulley WAI 24-1753, and best boat wire made 6awg cables with a 1/2” lug to 1/4” lug end and the project was just...

    Generator overcharging

You make an excellent point! I hadn’t thought about just finding a modern replacement of the GI alternator. It would make sense that the technology has evolved considerably even since ‘86 when my truck was built or ‘03 when it was gone over, one can only imagine with even older trucks. Thanks...

    Generator overcharging

Thank you for the quick response Scrounger. They are brand new batteries and were right in the green on the trucks voltage gauge after startup. In the time it took me to hop down and walk around the truck, and climb back in, the voltage pinned to the high side of the gauge and within a few...
