Thanks for all the good feedback! So I took the vehicle for a spin today (about 30 miles)... Once I returned, I grabbed my infrared temperature gun, but go figure, it was broken. By feeling the upper and lower radiator hose, I noticed that the upper is MUCH hotter than the lower. I assume...
Driving a 1987 M998 w/ 6.2 with stock gauges.
During the summer, the vehicle always seems to run hot (100 deg outside) and my temp gauge will flirt with 220deg. During the winter, the gauge seems to stay at about 200-210 max.
Today I decided to do a coolant flush, but I dont think the...
Thanks for the info! I finally got the vehicle in the garage, and discovered a broken CV on the rear right (passenger) side. I did pickup the TCase just in case, but I will start with the half shaft. Next problem, is trying to find one locally!
I could be completely wrong, but wouldn't a blown CV behave the same way in "H" or "HL"? When in "HL" the vehicle is good, and behaves normally. I am just mentally trying to understand how the vehicle would go in reverse when in "H". Any thoughts?
Thanks for the link... TM is always a good read!
I reviewed sections 8 and 9 for removal/installation procedures, but didn't see much regarding troubleshooting my issue. Tomorrow, Ill get the vehicle parked in the garage and visually look for any damage.
Thanks for yalls help
Hello,
I have a 1987 M998 w/ 38k miles and the 6.2L. The vehicle has run fine for the past year. Last month while driving, I heard a loud clanging noise from under the vehicle and lost power. Pulled to the side of the road and parked it. When I tried to resume driving, the vehicle went in...
Thanks for all the input everyone. I just jacked up the front, and "bear hugged" the front passenger tire. It moves about 3" left and right. Looking at the linkage, is appears to be the idler arm. (I have very little knowledge when it comes to steering components...) It looks like the...
Were you able to locate these items locally? I also have a '87 and am needing replacement upper and lowers. If you did purchase a set, do you happen to have the part numbers?
Yes, I agree. This was a test drive to see if the aftermarket wheels/tires would solve the problem....
I am looking for more information/procedures to checking all the steering components... Do you know if these procedures were included in the service manual for the HMMWV?
I have a 1987 m998 that is running well, except for a strange steering issue.
Today I was going down the road at about 45mph, when the vehicle quickly turned a couple degrees. The steering wheel is straight, but the vehicle will "wobble" left and right. It isnt a constant problem, only some...
Alright, I was able to remove the heater box in one piece. Thanks for the directions!
Unfortunately, I read in another SS forum that a 65-67 ford mustang w/ out AC heater core would be a close fit, but the coolant lines are not close together like they are on the stock core. Either drill...
Hello,Does anyone have a tutorial or procedure for replacing the heater core on a HMMWV? I have the replacement core, but am unsure where to start...Thanks
Thanks for the thoughts.. I have been running a drill, and that will take weeks! I am worried about increasing the speed too much over 70mph, and destroying the new odometer. Ill look around for a gauge shop or just leave it as is. I was just worried what the state inspection shops will say...
Just purchased a replacement speedometer/odometer for my m998, and the new one shows 000 miles. I would like to advance the odometer to match the actual 41,000. I have been sitting here with a drill for quite some time, and this is going to take days by using my electric drill. Does anyone...
