Yes. I can hear the engine trying to spool up, but it's retarded. After about 30 seconds, it automatically comes out of the retard mode and all is back to normal.
The only thing I don't like about my exhaust brake is that there is a significant time delay to accelerator input.
My 1083A1 goes into limp mode and I can't really accelerate for good 30-40 seconds after switching exh brake switch off.
Wasn't shifting. No forward movement, only rear. It was killing the engine. It spun the prop shaft even in neutral.
It was determined that 3rd ring was stuck which controls 4th and reverse IIRC.
I worked on a few obvious things first, but in the end, I got another tranny and did a direct swap.
I did try 'overriding' the purge. I even took the unit apart and cleaned it (easy and was able to learn what's inside).
None of that worked.
The suggestion about the governor was a valid one I thought as well. If the line was telling the dryer to purge, it purged.
In the end, it was just an...
I ordered the complete AD-9 air dryer kit from eBay.
The unit arrived complete with brackets, and in perfect condition.
I did have to order a separate 24v heater as completed AD-9 kits with 24v heaters were much more expensive.
I removed the old unit and using the mag drill made quick work of...
BTW, I did NOT pay the $136 from Motion Industries: https://www.motionindustries.com/products/sku/01315565
Instead, I found mine on FleBay for $18.76
Looks like right now this is the best deal: https://www.ebay.com/itm/303718034162 . YMMV
Thank you for the details and the links.
The guy is currently out of stock. There are plenty of other sellers, but none have the mounting bracket included in their listings -- I asked.
Do you know if the mounting bracket that's on the truck is the same as what the new dryer would require?
I...
So in the field, with limited tools, there is no way to bypass it?
I'm sorta thinking that it might be the unloader valve on the compressor, but I don't know shit about these things other than what I read and watch.
Update: Solved by replacing the dryer.
Last year, on my '91 M936A2, the air dryer started purging as soon as I turned on the truck (0psi in tanks).
One of the smart people told me to rotate the 3/8" bolt on the purge port (bottom), and it worked.
It happened again just now and I tried the same...
Please keep detailed pics or video of the process and tools/parts needed.
I’ve been meaning to do mine for few years but other life properties get in the way.
I do not have any parts other than frame takeout of the TD power train
