Hello - new MEP-803a owner here

Missing battery trays and hold-downs are pretty normal. The unit I just picked up is the most complete to date and is still missing one tray and the hold down. 1300 is still low hours and odds are good it just needs some PMs and batteries. I would go ahead and swap the IP feedlines amd return...

Mounting an MEP 802A on a Dodge Ram 2500

Is your truck a manual? If so, you should have the NV4500 transmission which has a pair of PTO ports. With the PTO you could drive pumps and generators from your existing powerrain. This is very common with accessories like knuckle cranes.

    Milton after action

Whole-heartledy agree with this. Minimum two, but three is a solid long term plan. Also, have the ability to run from multiple fuel sources, your fuel type may become limited. I keep a couple of gas inverter generators for light loads and backup.

Currently Running a MEP-803a During Beryl Hurricane - Question

Nice load banks you got there

    Addressing MEP-802a vibration

In retrospect, I wish I would have while it was apart. The runout was so bad, I thought for sure that was the issue.

    Addressing MEP-802a vibration

Copy that Guyfang! I pulled this thing apart last year and measured considerable runout at the end of the rotor shaft. Some was flexing of the [35] plate, but I fully disassembled the whole rotor, adapter plate and flywheel, measuring excessive runout on each interface. I've designed and...

    Addressing MEP-802a vibration

Havent run a compression test, but it pops off and seems to run strong under load. I was only able to load test it in short bursts because I kept getting an overload shutdown alarm. I have since use Deoxit on the mode switch and need to retest. This unit sat in Missouri for a long time in...

    Addressing MEP-802a vibration

:D This is definitely a type II fun project with no expectation of ROI. I like the 802's, but don't accept the level of vibration, even out of good running units. If I could spec an alternate isolator that resulted in 25% reduction in vibration, I would consider that a win. If I could get 50% or...

    Addressing MEP-802a vibration

Unfortunately yes. Of the three running 802a's, I'm not sure why this one particular unit shakes more, but I still need to verify the injectors are functioning correctly (pop test) and play with the timing slightly to see if that makes a difference. My nicest, newest unit is a 200 hr machine...

    Addressing MEP-802a vibration

I expect to get mixed replies on this one, but I've been suffering from Engineer Brain lately and I want to take a swipe at reducing the chassis vibration of an 802a. Background: I've own an 802a since 2018 and an 803a since 2023. I really like how smooth the 803a is, but most situations call...

    Input requested - MEP-802A/803A Radiators

I would vote for a drop-in replacement because I can't think of a better way to do the filler neck without a bunch of rework of the surrounding parts. We have a vehicle at work with a similar space constraint and we just lowered the filler neck and added an air bleed port on the radiator. I've...

    MEP802a LPW2 Governor Issues

Yup, been there. Got to have the right touch

    DN2M / DN4M engine experts, a Q about stuck rings.

The 3%/1000 ft derate is universal for normally aspirated engines, ignoring engines with tuned intake runners which this engine definitely doesn't have. I didn't make it super clear, but I was comparing this universal way of altitude derating an engine to the official way the 802a is derated on...

    DN2M / DN4M engine experts, a Q about stuck rings.

For N/A engines, you reduce power output by 3% for every 1000 ft of elevation. The LPW2 (DN2M) fixed speed version at 1800 rpm is rated for 12.5 HP cont / 13.7 HP int (fuel stop power) per ISO 3046 Based on calculations using BSFC, fuel consumption, known HP and electric load, I estimated the...

    DN2M / DN4M engine experts, a Q about stuck rings.

You guys are awesome as usual! I'll pull the injectors and scope the bore to start, but probably will end up using ATF. How long do you typically let it set? This unit is a backup, so being down for a while is not a problem.

    DN2M / DN4M engine experts, a Q about stuck rings.

Ray, It's light grey for ~3 minutes on startup or after additional load is added until the engine gets hotter. When I say additional load, my typical MO is to start the unit, let it warm up unloaded for 5 minutes or until coolant hits 120°F, then I add ~50% load (3kW) until the coolant is at...

    MEP802A 12V Generator

I like to keep a tennis ball or cap that is slightly bigger than the intake for choking off a runaway engine.

No signs, exhaust is dry with soot similar to my 3 other units.

1-2 hours at a time, every 1-2 months.
