Hey guys...been a while since I posted.
A few weeks ago I put a cheap diesel heater assembly in the back of my M998 and took it out overnight camping. it was AWESOME! But - Mrs. McSpeed won't go out in that kind of cramped exposed space.
So - there is a theme with me. One of my earlier...
We had a great run this weekend exploring an old mining road in Hatcher Pass, Alaska.
I didn't comment on it in the video - but my steering is not right. I just posted a thread about it here as well.
My truck has been working great - and working hard off-road. 1988 M998.
I had recently had some heavy water crossings and a week after I drained and filled my gear boxes and wheel gear boxes. No water came out - but never hurts to have fresh fluids.
I also re-greased the joints.
So - fast...
We had a blast last weekend trying this new-to-me trail that starts about mile 92 on the Old Glenn Hwy.
This was a combo of hills, heavy deep mud, rocks, and water crossing. Kind of had it all.
We made it through the heavy mud no problem. Really just rolled through it were others struggled...
My latest adventure into the Alaskan wilderness beat the crap out of the rockers.
I actually peeled back the reinforcement at the bottom of the B pillar to rocker on the passenger side - and dented the driver side badly.
I see Predator, Midwest Military Equip, and more offer guards.
These are...
Last weekend we finally attempted one of the more difficult and dangerous trails in the area.
I ran down to 10 psi and brake modulated….but at one point traction became impossible.
I know this is NOT a H1 or a M998 series...but the "future" is electric...they say.
I saw this video on Youtube -
I'll summarize - he ran the battery to zero - fully charged at a DC quick station - took two hours and 45 minutes....
And - with tax was just over $100!
HELP ME UNDERSTAND...
Anybody have pictures or input on a proper limb riser cable/system for the M998?
I'm running a modified brush guard - but has the stock side windows around the lamps - so I can connect there.
Last time out this weekend we got on some really narrow trails and took a beating.
Well guys, I did make it from the flat lands of high taxes and crooked politicians to the mountains and freedoms of the last frontier in AK.
Was able to get all my parts moved up that I'd been sitting on to make the 2 to 4 man conversion....
made a way too long - way boring video of that -...
Last night I installed one of the KATS 600 watt 41 mm block heaters.
It fit in the frost/freeze plug hole on the drive side back near the oil filter.
I found it was easiest to use an air hammer to rat tat tat on it and rock it out. The long screw driver and hammer just punched a hole in it...
Looing for bids/info/suggestions for moving my 1988 Humvee from zip code 61727 (Illinois) to Anchorage Alaska.
I am in the process of moving my son's 2007 Saturn ION there now. Hoping it arrives next week.
But, I'm concerned about this one as the width of the truck and if it sits for 3 to 4...
Anybody have source for quality rubber/steel shimmed style valve cover gaskets?
Mine are leaking...and since it looks like a pain in the butt to do...I don't want to do it again.
Looks like the injector lines have to come off for access - anything else?
I then have to bleed them to get it to...
Sounds silly guys but it works so well
I got my hands on some old office chairs. Lightweight and simple.
No less comfortable than the old ones and easy to install.
I’ll get them recovered maybe over the winter. Black or green. Not sure yet.
I'm sick of the canvas roof being so saggy and floppy and leaky. I've seen the plywood mod and talked to my brother-in-law in the army and he told me how they wedge that in to help. They don't do anything fancy - just shove two pieces in - one on each side and call it good. I've taken some...
Noticed my otherwise flawless fan clutch is weeping fluid. I've found a possible rebuild kit around $200 and noted these things tend to be out of stock or stupid expensive in the $500 plus range, When I replaced the water pump I put a close fit o-ring from in my shop in the front nose where...
Is Lone Star Drift (You tube name) a member here????
I bumped into his Humvee video series and have been loving it.
Looks like he is learning as he goes - but most important is he is having a blast putting that truck through some serious off-road travel and keeping up with some high dollar...
