With two bad batteries, my truck cranked really slow. Sometimes I'd have to hit the button a couple times to get it to turn over and start. The voltage gage also only read about 24v even with the alternator running. I think you'll notice pretty quickly if yours are going south.
I'd call those good. Maybe the 12.1 is questionable. Are you having cranking problems? I had two at 9-10v and they wouldn't take a charge even with a high current charger.
Quick update... Kambaku had a good spare set of batteries that I bought. The truck starts much better than ever now. I think the old batteries were on their way out even before I bought it last summer. My voltage gauge now reads 28v and the 28v light on the alternator is now green. I think the...
Well, after a while the battery started to get warm and the charger started pushing 20 amps. After a couple hours it began to smell "funny" and some fluid was starting to seep through the six sealed plugs, so I shut it off. Still only reading 9v. I think I have to face reality here lol
I borrowed a 30 amp charger from the shop next door and have it hooked up now but the amp gage is reading only about 4-5a. When I hook it up to one of the good batteries it pulls about 15-20. Is this normal? Or am I just beating a dead horse? The questionable batteries I have show about 8-9v but...
So what "standard" car battery can be used in place of the Hawkers? Looks like a group 34 will work with something to keep it in place since it's narrower. Are the terminals the same size and in the same location so the cables can be reused? Or will I have to make up some custom cables?
So did you pry out the six little plugs? Or do your batteries look different from mine? I've now tried three different chargers on mine and none of them work. The last one is a 40A charger but it just automatically goes into float mode when I hook them up. Anything I can do to try to salvage...
Yeah it was my fault for letting it sit. I'm also not getting 28v from my regulator so I think it was never really topping off the batteries anyway. I'm going to tap an extension cord into a light on the front of my shop so I can keep a charger on it all the time when parked.
So I've had one battery on the Noco charger for about 10 days now and it's not taking a charge. I tried the recovery mode, too. I'm going to try to find a 20 amp charger to blast it with in a last ditch effort. What's a good (cheap) replacement for these, if it doesn't take? Two are still...
My Noco Genius 7200 came in and wasn't able to charge my batteries on regular AGM mode. I just switched it to recovery mode and we'll see if that helps it. What are people using to replace the Hawkers?
I'll check those wires, thanks for the tip. For a charger, I found an open box Schumacher with a 20A setting for $50 that should do the trick. http://www.batterychargers.com/xc75w/
That makes sense. My charger is only 6A. Time to go shopping I guess. Does the 20A charger need to be AGM-specific? I also need to get my voltage regulator sorted out; it's only putting out 24v and I think that's keeping the batteries from being "topped off."
Truck sat for a couple weeks in the cold and then wouldn't start. Two of the batteries were at 10v so I pulled them all out to charge individually with my 12v charger but it didn't seem to take. I even tried putting one of the "good" batteries in parallel with the low ones while charging. Not...
