The reason you see so many -831A's is because they are by far, the biggest number of gen sets in the military. The 3KW was always the workhorse of the Army. Yeah, we had the 1.5 KW, and later the 2 KW, but far and away, the 3 KW was our workhorse. Think about an infantry unit. Large gen sets...
We use only nord locks on all our electrical connections. And all new circuit breakers come with them installed. On the transformers we install, 20 KVA, we use them one time. If you have to remove a component, it always gets new washers.
In the TM, it states that if the conditions warrant it, then the filters should be changed more often. Here in germany its not a problem. At White Sands New Mexico, different deal. The last time I was in Odessa, I would have told you to change the filters!! It looked like a tornado was about to...
No way. Records like that would never be kept long.
The heating up of the muffler could also be a sign of incorrect timing. So maybe the shims will correct that.
Yes, you can burn out the muffler, when it has a buildup of crud.
Warning!
I have seen a Brit friend of mine catch one on fire, when he tried to burn out the muffler. He started it up, loaded it down, and walked away. That BS fire resistant cover on the muffles WILL burn, it it gets hot...
If it LOOKS clean, dump some denatured alcohol into it. If you can swirl it around, its good, then let it out. When its possible, I remove the tank, but on some gen sets that's not an option. If it doesn't look clean, it might be best to remove the tank and pressure wash it. THEN put in the...
This sounds like a fuel problem. What kind? Let's list them
1. Old/bad fuel
2. Dirty fuel. Not the same as #1.
3. Fuel line with a pin hole.
4. Fuel pump problem.
5. Trash in the fuel tank. Several times I have had such problems. The fuel pickup, would suck up something, but could not pass it...
Normally, putting the NSN into your browser will bring up several sites that will give you all the info you need to know about a fastener. If you can't find anything, send me a PM, and I just might be able to help you.
Your fuel level fault is perhaps the most common fault seen in this series, 802 and 803 gen sets. I have seen any number of reasons this happens. Will list some here.
1. Fuel level switch not properly adjusted. (Distance from bottom of tank to bottom of switch too small, or to high in the...
I will say it again. Full load, 6-8 hours and then see if you have a problem. Yeah, you got to put up with the noise and cost of fuel. But the only way to be sure, other then maybe installing a new muffler, is to burn it out. You can try and clean out the muffler. I tried lots of ways. None...
I just posted in the manuals upload section simple instructions on how to setup and adjust the governor for the MEP-831A. I think its easier to follow then the TM, and if you print it out, (its one page) easier to look at then the TM or computer screen. Got it from a "friend". Thanks dude!
