that full package of theres is quite the setup..
I'm thinkign tuff country Heavy duty kit with front and rear springs, shocks and necessary brake lines or whatever.. ( sterring drop for a 4 inch?)
the reverse shackle stuff seems great, but not going to wheel this thing too hard, just want...
OK Ive decided:
4 inch lift with some 33 inch tires ( I'd love 35's but don't think the stock axles will hold up that long)
any suggestions fromt eh peanut gallery on what brand of lift kit and where to get it?
not going to use blocks in the rear, springs all around
got the...
ok the general idea I'm getting is that the axles in the 1009 are not that sturdy and anything too big tire wise will not last long.
31-32-maybe 33 is ok according to most.
I'm sure if I put some aggrressive 31-32's I'll be just fine, won't need to regear or anything
not makign a hard...
well a friend of mine is the BMO, and he was pretty sure anything I needed done to the truck he could do, he was mad I didn't bring the engien to him for a rebuild. I had to tell him I was in a bit of a hurry to get it running on its own so I could move it around some before I left on my trip.
well seeing as I just added a engine to the pile I have about 1000 worth of parts in a pile right now :-)
wish I had seen the GL list stuff before I bought mine, seen some nice ones on there, how much do they usually sell for on the GL?
these tires and rims are the rigth price and look good, but I don't think they would be able to turn without at least a 4-6 inch lift
and the size would probably need a gear ratio change
my question is, will the axles hold up? Its not going to eba an extreme 4x4, just driven in the...
well thats good to know,
for starters I just want the thing to run, will probably get some cheap tires that are stock or near to it, then after given it a long period of thought maybe go bigger...
I do realize that if I go to a much larger tire a regear will be almost mandatory with the...
well my thoughts are to go 32-33 on it with just a small lift ( 2-4) for now
make sure the rest of the truck gets in good reliable workign order..
Maybe in the future, the humvee 37's taller lift and the banks ( with a regear as well)
lots of good suggestions and pics...
any...
anyone know the biggest tire I can safely fit on a stock height one with stock rims?
the stock tires are pretty small,
I had 265's on my 2wd ford, and 285's on the 4x4 stock height one I had
the truck just looks funny with the smaller stock size tires.
well the turbo falls into the Optional late if I think I need it.
and the humvee tires come mounted on rims that fit
Military Tires
the turbo would be a banks sidewinder aftermarket kit
If I go with a 4-6 inch lift I can fit the bigger tires, Or I may just see what I can buy...
on my notebook when I was thinking the 37" hummvee tires, I just budgeted for a gear swap..
now I'm not so sure,
keep thinking not go so big on the tires and lift, keep it simple, just enough
I have plenty of time to think about it...
not sure if blown is the correct term..
when it wouldn't start, the mechanic and I started checkign things, like timing chain, glowplug voltage etc..
the mechanic ( who had been workign on the truck for the owner) kept saying it was running great then blam fubar. ( I wonder if GA would let...
I'm basically making a to do list, and I have 6 months of time to think about what to do when I get back. the turbo is a wishful thinking maybe, I have to drive the truck some to see if I want more power.
I will probably do a 4 inch lift and a decent size tire package, that way it will stay...
Ok folks, been pouring over the forums and reading as much data as possible.
I just purchased a M1009 for next to nothing ( probably due to the blown crankshaft)
But, Ive sourced a replacement engine and wil soon have it runnign again.
I have some plans, I don't want to pretty the...
