    Another thread had some info on the C and D block differences and among other things the D block has an updated headgasket that has two tabs that stick out a bit between the two heads visible from the outside. My block doesn't look like it has them so I am determining it is a C block. The block...

    Using the headgasket tab method I'd say I have a C block and judging by those pictures and the sound its a C turbo. Not particularly loud but it was MFG in 84 so they might have modified it a little.

    How do you determine what turbo you have? I'm fairly sure I have a whistler on the truck I just got but its not as loud as I would expect (it whistles, but not quite as obnoxiously as everyone says they are)
