Dangerous Situation Today With My M1009

At 1:36 I think it answers your question, the splined "race" looks like just a support. NO decent race would have splines or cut outs as the petals would move and bend either coming out of round, or causing the cage to crack. Place the race ON TOP of that petal and assy as normal. The hub...

    1. Harbor Freight or Northern should have one. A steady hand is the big issue ($20) 2. Same as above ($5) 3. You can use a NEW bearing race as a guide along with a set of feeler gauges or if you don't have those a business card ($8) Most of the above is easy to find/purchase. I don't think...

Here's what I would do... Find a HIGH speed dremel and some cutting oil... Douse spindle with oil Place fire extinguisher nearby Notch stuck nut with dremel on BOTH SIDES! Bust in half with cold chisel and BFH. Check spindle for heat damage and concentricy sp* with a micrometer, Good luck.

This: Re: GM 10 Bolt Front Axle Seals Just did this the other day..... Drain diff fluid. While doing this pull shafts out. Pull carrier out, taking care to note placement and orientation of bearing caps (they have to go back in the same place in the same direction). You will...

Dangerous Situation Today With My M1009

The knuckle should be fine. I've seen them break/get destroyed, but usually only after the rest of the axle is toast. You might want to check the ball joints too. You have a Dana 44 under your 1009?? A new axle might be the way to go depending on how shot everything is. I would seriously...

Service the other side if possible Replace if necessary or worn. No reason to spend money if you don't need to. I can't answer the brake question. Depends on a bunch of factors, when they were last serviced, wear, rust, warping, etc. Check belts, hoses, tie rod ends, u-joints, buy new...

Dangerous Situation Today With My M1009

I must have gotten a pretty HD version then, because I've broken a Ford 9", Seen a Dana 44 snap in two places on a trail I did fine on, gotten the truck to 110 mph in 2wd and 70 in 4x4, towed 1200 pounds of axles alone with everything I own in the cab while going off road... I'm honestly...

Yep. Which I laugh at people who knock those axles... if you've seen what I've done with my 1009 and STOCK 10-bolts... you'd freak :D

Hub puller first. That will do it or crack the hub gear in half if you get a good enough hold. :)

Dangerous Situation Today With My M1009

He's right Ni... There is one gear left... although, it looks like part of one snap ring remains on the outside of the spline gear. My eyes aren't that good. You can also heat up the hub gear with a small torch, that would help, or you can beat it off... Looks like you may need a new axle...

Can you light up the spines on the stub shaft? That will tell me what I need to know. :)

Dangerous Situation Today With My M1009

Okay, per my notes: You're going to need a FOUR tooth spindle nut socket... try... Oreillys P/N: W1271 I'll PM you the source on the spindle. They have free shipping.

Dangerous Situation Today With My M1009

No, that's not the nut. It's the inner hub spline gear. THAT gear needs to come off in order to access the nut BEHIND the chewed up gear. Did you get the little split washer thing (mine was black off the stub shaft? (Video is too grainy for my eyes) If so... grab the HUB and PULL! Make...

Dangerous Situation Today With My M1009

There are three retaining rings. Two on the axle shaft, and the one that Porky pointed out that I was refering to earlier. Changing to an 8 lug f/r is better. Two things to consider, you may need a new rear drive shaft and if I remember correctly... you are correct. Everything from the...

Dangerous Situation Today With My M1009

Sorry for the double tap, but before I forget... Grease the inner spindle bearing. EVERYONE always forgets those. If your wheel bearing is toast, odds are the spindle bearing is too. Autozone part Timken #B2110 if I remember correctly.
