Turns out that it was for a locking diff(not now fitted) being operated by the solenoid.

Just had an email from Ken the Muttguru and it seems that company called Milplus did a locker conversion for the rear diff on the mutts. This would seem to be an electric actuator for the diff lock. I will have a look and see if the diff has a locker in it. would make it better in the rough...

Couple of pictures of the offending item now off the mutt. It seems to be some sort of solenoid. unit pulls wire back about 1inch Not sur if it was some form of locker for the diff??? No markings at all on the unit the welds to the bracket are rough and the plate aint square.

I will drag the Mutt out over the weekend and get a few better pictures/maybe even remove it and see what it does? It looks like the 2 wires at the rear of the unit power it and a thick wire cable coming out of the bellow end. I wonder if its some kind of actuator to pull something:neutral:

My Mutt went in today for its First mot test whilst up on the ramp and having a good look around found the item in the picture anyone know what it is? It is fitted just behind the rear bumper/ rear crosmember 2 wires to it and one coming out.
