    Shelter carrier hardware

Thanks Antennaclimber. I took 3 more pictures, but they aren't turning out too good, partly because I painted the inside of the bed flat black. If anyone is putting a shelter in their truck and want specific pictures, I will be happy to take some more. If you follow the diagrams your shelter...

    Shelter carrier hardware

We washed of the shelter just before dark and the pictures didn't turn out to well. I'll have to take some more tomorrow or the day after of how the shelter sits in the dunnage, front and sides. The photo of the dunnage before the shelter was in place was taken before it was screwed down, but it...

    Shelter carrier hardware

I put the shelter in the truck last night and will fasten it down today. I was running out of time so I fastened everything down and took a chance it would fit. Everything fit except for a minor detail with the cleats. They were an inch too long. Instead of 19" and 10" they needed to be 18" and...

    Shelter carrier hardware

Thanks for the pictures. I followed the plans and my dunnage looks like yours. I'm debating now whether to set the shelter in and tac the wood in place or nail it all down then lower it in. The CUCV plans specified those shackle cutouts, so there must be a reason. I see the one thing for sure...

    Shelter carrier hardware

Even if your shelter was within specs, or was brand new for that matter, I don't see the reason for the precision. To require the cutouts in the top plank for CUCV installation, indicates those small shackles had a purpose in a CUCV. That is assuming the cutouts were for their access. With such...

    Shelter carrier hardware

So I took one of the end planks and held it up to the shelter. It looks like the cutouts in it are for access to the shackles on the 4 corners. I thought those shackles were for a different application than the CUCV. Now it looks like they are used for something to possibly lift the shelter, I...

    Shelter carrier hardware

I think I know how the shelter is mounted with the hardware. It's the dunnage under the shelter that is perplexing. The specs for it are down to the 16th of an inch. Besides lifting the shelter higher in the bed so it won't ride on the bed rails, I don't see what the end planks are designed to...

    Shelter carrier hardware

I have cut the pressure treated lumber to the dimensions in the TM but I'm not making sense of it when it's in the back of my truck. When nailing it down the assembly instructions call for a 3/16 overhang in the back, a 13/16" overhang in the front. There are cutouts for the fenders and the...

    Shelter carrier hardware

Does anyone have a shelter in their CUCV? I had one in a M1028 9 years ago. I didn't have the correct dunnage under it at the time and I ended up removing the shelter. Sold the truck and eventually got a different M1028. I'm going to put the same shelter back in this current truck. I noticed the...

The jacks came with big caster wheels bolted to the bottom of the jacks for rolling the shelter, probably on and off the truck but I don't have any flat areas, everything around here has a slope so I removed them and used blocks.

    Shelter carrier hardware

The jacks came with the shelter, I didn't add them. I'll get a closeup picture. I stated it won't rot only because that is my experience, I'm sure it eventually will, but one board I used under my shelter was partially buried in dirt for the last 10 years and showed no sign of rot yet. I just...

    Shelter carrier hardware

I'm still in need of the front crosspiece, and while the bed rails may not have been part of the shelter hardware, the military did install them with the other shelter carrier hardware pieces on my truck. I'm the 1st civilian owner. I'll get a picture of the rails.

    Shelter carrier hardware

Thanks for the pictures willey10. It seems all these shelters were built different. I haven't seen 2 built the same. I'll try to post a picture of mine. Was a plate that covered the side rails of the pickup box part of the shelter hardware on the M1028? Thanks

    Shelter carrier hardware

I looked at some pictures of shelters on HMMWV's and the ones on the M1097 look like they are the same s-250g shelter, where the shelter that is on the other HMMWV variants is built to fit the HMMWV only. The fit in the M1097 is tight to the cab. I don't see anything on my shelter where it may...

Firefox, the best wood to use would be pressure treated. It will never rot. That's what M38 used too. The bad is when you cut it the cut wood will be exposed that is not treated. The pressure treating doesn't go all the way through. To give the cut areas some protection you could paint those or...

    Shelter carrier hardware

The problem I see with the dunnage is backing the truck under the shelter. It was a tight fit without any dunnage. I can see the need for dunnage under the bottom rails to keep the shelter off the bed sides but I would like to find another way to anchor the shelter at least front to rear so it...

    Shelter carrier hardware

My shelter has rails built into the bottom of the shelter on the sides and blocks on the ends. I'm unsure until I do some measuring, but I'm wondering if my shelter requires the same dunnage. M38inmaine, is your shelter built with the built in rails or is it flat bottom? I'm wondering if some...

    Shelter carrier hardware

I ended up getting a shelter for my M1028 and I got it in the bed late this evening. Is there anything that is supposed to be under the shelter? It rests on the bed rails. The rails do have a top plate. Anybody here have a shelter mounted mil-spec, with a picture? Thanks

    Shelter carrier hardware

I would really like to see one mounted on a M1028. It's probably not too practical so maybe there aren't many out there, but if somebody has one, I'd like to see it and how its attached. I'll try the TM's and classifieds for pics too. Thanks

Does anyone have a picture of their M1028 with a shelter on it and especially a picture showing how it is attached? Thanks
