On my truck the drive shafts were bad. I have also discovered that the engine mounts are torn. I have replacement parts but have not installed them yet.
So after more internet research it looks like there are vibration measurement apps for android and iphone. There are also handheld meters for doing this. I've contacted the maker of this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=vibratesoftware.jacobkelly.nvh to verify they can do hub...
Could you describe that procedure? I can imagine using a clamp to squeeze the ujoints together. Do you crib the jack up high enough to push from below?
Possible good long term solutions.
1. bigger bolt so less slop
2. use a nord lock washer to avoid vibrating the fastener appart
3. use a castle nut or safety wire
4. modify/replace L bracket with 2 ears or a stop so it rests under compression
5. figure out why the engine is shaking so much and...
So did another 100 mile trip in the truck and lost the same bolt. M8 1.25 x 40. I'm had a spare and put it in when I got home. I'm going to go measure the hole because I think the bolt is actually not big enough (slop in the hole). Has anyone else find a bigger bolt that fits?
Just discovered there was a driveline update. If you look on your data plate there should be a giant D stamped in if it was done. I was told they changed the drive shafts and steering components.
I haven't been to an Ace in years. I would have never thought of looking there. Thanks. I'll pop in. I'd like to get some of the basic 6mm bolts that appear all over the engine for spares so I can swap the rusty old ones out as time permits.
Found the replacement bolts at home depot. $1.29 each. Install went easy. I think something bigger than a m8 would fit in the alternator but I'm sure it will work. Found the original nut all rusted face sitting on the frame. It was not a lock nut. New nut is a crimp style lock nut. Tightened...
More thinking on the issue. I have seen a video of someone adjusting the upper engine. I don't recall if it was injector or valve lash. He held something down and the engine got very very noisy. After adjustment the engine ran smoother. He did this for every cylinder and at the end the engine...
I'm totally new to trucks with air brakes. I believe the main drum brakes are the emergency brakes. If air is cut they lock automatically.
Can anyone who actually understands the brakes chime in?
Looking at the diagram it looks like the water pump mates to the block using a round o-ring and has 2 hoses coming out of it that also use o-rings. I was assuming the pump mated using a flat gasket like on a gas car.
