What have you done to your FMTV or LMTV today

The "Pioneer Toolkit" (shovel, pick-mattock, axe, saw, telescoping loppers) is always on board, in my opinion. At the very least because if you take this truck on trails, you end up having to trim lots of low-hanging branches, fill ruts you leave, etc.

Finally made new shockcords for the cargo cover. The old ones lasted about 4-5 years, but were slowly failing. The collars are pretty hard to press onto the shockcord hooks, so I had to design a special tool.

Nice! More 3D printer people coming in.

They aren't canvas. They're a rubberized/plasticized material, like a white water raft is made out of.

Does paint even stick to them? Seems like it would just flake off, from all the flexing.

Can I take a look at the broken one?

Gonna have it repaired and sell it?

They're a heavy duty Allison truck shop. They take similar transmissions out of dump trucks and stuff all the time.

Which is crazy, because this stuff isn't rocket science. You unhook some wiring harnesses and driveshafts, unbolt the transmission, and take it out.

I think the USMC 7-tons are Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacements (MTVR). Similar name, but not related in almost any componentry.

The "F" in FMTV is "Family". So the FAMILY of Medium Tactical Vehicles includes both MTVs and their "Light" LMTV siblings. All 12V lights.

    ComicCon Assault Vehicle?

No, all lights, all over the truck, in any truck in the FMTV family, are 12V. There are no 24V lights.

Have you tried using the wipers yet? I replaced all mine with beam blades like that, and they don't wipe the window well at all.

I installed my litter racks in the trailer, with only the bottom bunk on, to be used as benches for a parade.

Picture is hard to tell, but crappy looking welds are often the result of contamination or poor shielding. Be sure to grind/wire brush all the paint and rust off the metals before you weld them. If your welder has a shielding gas bottle, be sure it's turned on and adjusted properly, and if...

I like the spacer idea! Also, you were supposed to have 4 spars already. Did your cover only have 2?

It means that the truck is designed to withstand a High Altitude ElectroMagnetic Pulse (HAEMP). One of the secondary methods of nuclear attack is to detonate the missile high in the atmosphere, not on the ground like in an attack designed for physical destruction. The resulting EMP is then able...

I don't have one of those inline heaters on my LMTV. I once had one on a K5 Blazer, because it was easier to install than trying to take the exhaust manifolds off to get to the freeze plugs. It worked ok. On the CAT 3116 engine, the freeze plug you need to remove is very accessible. In fact...

Technically yes, though I think sometimes the term "coolant heater" is used more specifically to refer to the style that goes inline in the radiator hose, thus heating the coolant mainly. These block heaters replace one of the freeze plugs in the block, hence the name "block heater", but they...
