    Yanmar L100V Help Request

You beat me to it coming here to post today. I just gave up & sold it to someone today for $200 to recover most of the money I had into it. It's gotta be an injection issue. I told the buyer that's what I thought it was. Turns out he has some M998's & other surplus stuff. Seemed a bit more...

    Yanmar L100V Help Request

That's a good idea, but I doubt it. Usually the started makes a very noticeable amount of noise if it was stuck. These motors are powerful enough to overpower the starter anyways. Since I have tried everything else, I am going to unbolt the starter & see if by chance that makes a difference!

    Yanmar L100V Help Request

I have had the crankcase open already as well as the head off. Everything looked extremely good, no issues that are obvious anyways.

    Yanmar L100V Help Request

Not on a hot engine. It would be really hard to do that because on these engines the adapter goes where the injector goes.

    Yanmar L100V Help Request

With the valve bonnet cover off, when I turn the engine by hand, on the compression stroke, I can here a faint amount of hissing coming from the crank case where the push rods come up. Is it possible that I do have a compression issue or am I just hearing the pressure build? Does the test gauge...

    Yanmar L100V Help Request

I replaced it with something that was close since I had no idea on a part number. I also did had to change the wiring. Found out the problem all along with that was that there was a diode in the starting circuit that rubbed through wire insulation under a shrink wrap. Had no idea the diode was...

    Yanmar L100V Help Request

Alright, so I went through the process to confirm TDC. According to my test, the TDC mark on the cooling fin was off by about 1/8 inch.. quite a bit. I marked it & adjusted everything off the new mark. Same issue... just chugs along & barley keeps running. I really want to just toss it in the...

    Yanmar L100V Help Request

Well, the 4 combinations of the injection pump shims I had made no difference. I noticed a bit of exhaust smoke coming out of the intake. Going to let the engine cool & check the valve clearance AGAIN. I'm going to go through the TDC confirmation process as well. It's possible that somehow...

    Yanmar L100V Help Request

Finally spent some more time on it now that I can do a compression test. Getting about 420 PSI. The manual says 460psi is the standard. Low limit of 365psi. These were done at 68 deg. It's probably 90 deg out, so that will make the psi drop. I'm within the limit on compression. So, this leaves...

Looks like it could but I wouldn't want to take the chance. I edited the other post & by chance did find the correct adapter & purchased it.

    Yanmar L100V Help Request

Only for the kit from Yanmar, Kit # TOL97190080. EDIT: Always seems as soon as you give up, you then stumble on what you need; Kiene C-3086 https://www.kienedieseltools.com/product/27401/kiene-c-3086-compression-test-adapter

    Yanmar L100V Help Request

I have no way to do a compression check because the needed adapter is next to impossible to find. But, the engine start & runs, just doesn't get up to speed. Everything I have read on these small Yanmar engines, if you can't pull past the compression stroke that there's enough compression. :(

    Yanmar L100V Help Request

Thank you for the article but that is way past what I have already done. The injection pump & injector are working as they should. To rule it out, I have tried 3 other injection pumps & had the same results.

    Yanmar L100V Help Request

So, I spent a full day yesterday trying to get this thing running again with no luck. Removed the whole top end & cleaned everything in a parts washer. Lapped the valves. Re-checked everything. No luck! Disassembled the injector successfully this time. Cleaned the inside of it & tested. All...

    Yanmar L100V Help Request

So, I got a renewed motivation to get this thing to run again. Checked everything again. Then once more. Removed the head & everything looks good in there as well. No way to pressure test but in the last week of reading things on people repairing these Yanmar L-series engines & the 186 type...

    Yanmar L100V Help Request

Yanmar sells worldwide & it needs to meet every legal requirment for the warnings. Pshh, if you sell in California you need all kinds of extra warnings. I can't imagine all the ones required in all the European countries!

I do have the operators manual but thank you. What I can't find anywhere is the workshop/repair manual for the V Series engines. :(

    Yanmar L100V Help Request

There is nothing I can find as far as a Technical Manual for the L100V, military or civilian. I searched everything high & low. The V series are different than the AE series so you can't use those as I have them for other military generator sets & equipment. The biggest difference is in the...
