Yanmar L100V Help Request

With the valve bonnet cover off, when I turn the engine by hand, on the compression stroke, I can here a faint amount of hissing coming from the crank case where the push rods come up.

Is it possible that I do have a compression issue or am I just hearing the pressure build? Does the test gauge have a check valve of some sort that holds the pressure in it?

I may try a compression test again & see if the pressure is dropping to quickly. It didn't drop at all when I did the test.

I replaced it with something that was close since I had no idea on a part number. I also did had to change the wiring. Found out the problem all along with that was that there was a diode in the starting circuit that rubbed through wire insulation under a shrink wrap. Had no idea the diode was there. Wasn't ab;e to find a wire diagram until way after the fact.

With all that said, that issue would have nothing to do with the engine running as it is. I solved the issue & everything ran fine for a number of hours & load tests.

That thar conundrum is shore nuff a tail twister! I mildly suspected an intermittent ground out, if that’s possible.
I ran into some problems with my diesel Farm Pro (aka Jinma) tractor. It was running fine then it started sputtering then it died. It wouldn’t restart fer nuthin’. Took off the sediment bowl and it was one gacked up mess. It to some elbow grease and some chemical additives to get it clean. I skipped over the primer pump and moved up to the fuel filter. When I got it removed, I found some real nasty wet paper-ish stuff, which poured out of the filter. Fortunately I had a new filter. Replaced the filter, flushed the lines, then attempted to prime to fuel system. After a good 30 minutes of operating the pump, I had enough. I pulled the pump off the engine, drained it (more hack) and got it working correctly then primed all the fuel system. Finally, it worked. Tried starting the tractor but it was still grumpy. Tried starting a little more and vroom, she started up with a big black cloud of smoke out of the exhaust pipe.
I can only hope there might be something here that can help solve yer problem(s).

When you do the compression test, is it done on a hot engine? A hot running engine, if suffering from a crack, will most probly start acting up as soon as the engine gets hot.

Not on a hot engine. It would be really hard to do that because on these engines the adapter goes where the injector goes.

Know anyone who has a borescope? Harbor Freight has the least expensive ones. Do a visual on the inside of all accessible ports.

I have had the crankcase open already as well as the head off. Everything looked extremely good, no issues that are obvious anyways.

Any chance the starter is hanging up and becomes a load? What happens if you remove the starter and try to pull start it?

That's a good idea, but I doubt it. Usually the started makes a very noticeable amount of noise if it was stuck. These motors are powerful enough to overpower the starter anyways. Since I have tried everything else, I am going to unbolt the starter & see if by chance that makes a difference!

I just gave up & sold it to someone today for $200 to recover most of the money I had into it. It's gotta be an injection issue. I told the buyer that's what I thought it was. Turns out he has some M998's & other surplus stuff. Seemed a bit more knowledgeable than me so I bet he'll figure it out.

I decided to give up on it because I put to much time in & I'm trying to raise some quick cash. A very good deal on an LMTV with trailer came up that I'm going to buy. I already have a generator anyways so no huge loss besides the time & the feeling of defeat for me.
