I traced the tools with a sharpie and then used the knife that comes with the kit. Any good razor blade with do though.
The kits comes with some sticky paper to put on the foam to make the tracing easier - don't use it, it's crap.
I think I used 1 or 2 kits of foam. Pretty cheap.
My bottom drawer IS loaded much heavier than in the year old pics. I'll post a new one up tonight. At 40-80 dollars each, I can buy a lot of these boxes instead of a high dollar one.
Won't hold up? It's been over a year with plenty of off road driving. And the bottom drawer is pretty overloaded since we tossed all my 1/2 inch drive stuff in there on top of everything else.
How much longer until you think it all falls apart?
And like I've said before - the tools have not...
Nothing EVER gets painted green or OD around here. If it ain't TAN it ain't chit. LOL
For better security I would go with a better box next time,
Weather striping not required, it doesn't get dirty, just a little dusty.
I thought about the cover/door/table idea, but decided it was too much...
Just an update after more than a year of use.
The tools have gotten "dusty"; never dirty, wet or muddy. We get plenty of rain at times but not enough water gets in to do any damage. It's seen plenty of off road use at DIRTBAG and other trips, yet no massive amounts of dirt or mud. Just some...
What's "rain" ? This is SOCAL. :)
We'll see how dry it stays in there. It's under the bed so that will offer some protection. I have a rain cover from an old backpack that fits, but I don't think it will hold up to 45-50 MPH. It's still a work in progress.
There is enough room to get at the nuts. The pics don't show it clearly, but there is enough space - not as much as with the rack though. Let's hope the 11 new tires the truck came with hold out. :)
The aft end of the box is supported very well I think. The forward end may indeed be the weak link. I don't plan on putting anything heavy in there - just nicely organized wrenches and screwdrivers and such. Then again, some of those wrenches are pretty heavy. Time will tell - if it doesn't...
So why are you posting about it on your computer which is made overseas or at least MOSTLY made overseas?
Bottom line - it's MY money (or the wife's) and I earned it by helping provide you with freedom of speech - I'll spend my money as I see fit - sorry if it rubs you the wrong way.
You...
I would have to look, but it probably was. Not sure where the Craftsman low end boxes are made. The higher end stuff used to be made in the USA, but who knows anymore. The drill bit I used was made in China - the Ryobi cordless tools probably were as well. The hardware holding it to the...
It might, but it's easy enough to have some sort of cover made if that happens a lot. The only way in is through the front (of the toolbox which faces the side of the truck), not through the bottom or back. If it doesn't work out I'm out $35 and my truck has a few small holes in it.
After I swapped the rusty roofed M109 box for a clean cargo bed I discovered the mounting for the pioneer rack was a little different. I've been meaning to fab something up to get it reinstalled, but have been dragging my feet. I thought about putting a toolbox there and when Phil mentioned he...
