WOW!! It's been quite a while since I HAD to work on MONGO. A few weeks ago though he was giving me attitude and wasn't running on all cylinders, metaphorically speaking. He actually crapped out on me and I had to reach out to a buddy and get a tow. Long story short, the IP went belly up. While...
After three years I finally adjusted the hood release latch. It now opens with no pounding on the hood. AH!!!!!!! Also replaced the air filter. Top will be coming off soon!!
I now need to find the time to cut out the old rear floor pans, weld in the new ones and have it Line-X'd.
Odds & Ends
Got around today to doing a few things I've been putting off. I modified an ammo can and mounted it to the radio mount on the dash. It includes 4 plug adapters (2 on top and 2 inside) and a terminal strip. Now I have power wherever and whenever I need it. I have a Panavise cell...
Have done the following over the last week or so:
replaced front leaf springs (now slightly smiling and not frowning)
replaced steering gearbox
replaced front u-joints
replaced sway bar bushings
replaced eye bushings
replaced leaf spring U-bolts
replaced spindle seals
replaced grease seals...
Just when I thought I could just enjoy the ride!! Walked out of the local Pep Boys and noticed the PS exhaust was hanging and angled funny. Gave the tail pipe a kick and to the ground it went. After dropping a small fortune, the new exhaust ROCKS, literally!! Routed the pipes out the side in...
Just enjoying MONGO as an almost everyday driver! Happy to be driving instead of busting knuckles all the time. I think some new 3.55 gears may be in order though?!?!?!
Used Mongo as the tow vehicle on a family camping trip to the Wisconsin Dells this past week. Pulled the pop-up like a DREAM! Even while I was on vacation the bug bit and I changed out all the fuses to the neat expensive ones that light up when they pop.
I think this week I am going to use...
Been towing my pop-up for just over a year without a single issue. Definitely tows better than my Caravan. Can't wait to tow this year now that the tranny is rebuilt, trans cooler is hooked up and helpers are installed in the rear!!!
Added helper springs to the rear to prevent sag while towing the camper. Also ordered new PS hoses. After the PS hoses are done it's onto the radiator fluid, hoses and thermostat.
About a week ago when I had a 101 fever (wife was NOT happy) I changed out the shocks with the $20 Tenneco's from LMC (MADE IN USA) and they are great! The old ones were so shot they would not expand once compressed AT ALL! They are a great stock replacement and would not do very well mudding...
Hmm... the bypass didn't seem to work. I guess I'm off to Napa tomorrow for an ST85 GP relay and go from there?!?! Still starting like crap and smoking. Has anyone actually bought and used a CUCV Glow Plug Controller from CUCV electric yet??? I hope my troubles end at the relay though but was...
Did the glow plug module bypass today. About a week ago the fast idle stopped working and Mongo began spewing some white smoke on start-up. Today I bypassed the module and manually held the solenoid to ground while the DW waited for the GP light to go off and it started like a champ. After...
Replaced P/S upper and lower ball joints, replaced the aft tie rod end off the pitman arm and had an alignment done. The steering wander and general lack of responsiveness in the steering is now gone!! Oh, also had the tires rebalanced after I noticed some weights were missing, tightened the...
Got Mongo back yesterday from getting the trans rebuilt and WOW what a difference!!! Had an RV shift kit installed (mild kit), new Dynamic converter, Derale deep trans pan, Hayden trans cooler and AMSOIL trans fluid. Drives and shifts like a dream now.
Also completed the following:
- Replaced...
Since my windshield washer pump was inop, I bypassed it and installed an external pump and wired a momentary switch into the cab. It works great! It's nice to have clean windows while driving!!
