What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

We tried the pepper spray anti-chew stuff with my roommate's Border Collie / Aussie Shepard mix, the dog still ate through the fence. We then found out we could feed the dog as many jalapenos as he'd eat... other than really bad gas, no side effect. That dog liked the hot stuff.... So, I...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

My dad had a dog that did that, chewed his rear lights out on a '74 Dodge W100 short narrow box multiple times. The dog only stopped chewing on wire when he chewed through a plugged in zip-cord type extension cord (the one with three outlets in the molded on end). Left scorch marks on both...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

I'm pretty sure it's a Dodge radiator overflow tank, from a Dodge CUCV. Notice the pentastar logo on the radiator....

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

I've thought about fitting a lock cylinder, but I don't want to cut a slot on the fuel filler surround for it to engage... I may have to fab up a plate / tab for it to hook to. The transmission shop set it up to lock up, not sure if it's 2-3-4 or just in 4. No controller, it's all hydraulic...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Yeah, I know what you mean, the 700r4 was a great improvement for my M1010. Pulls away quicker, shifts smoother (my TH400 shifted HARD), and it's low geared enough that it will break both tires loose if I mash on it. :) Being able to hold a conversation while driving 70MPH down the freeway is...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

M1010 Fuel door installed I picked up an aluminum fuel door kit off of Amazon, and got around to installing it today, after approx 10 gallons of fuel walked off (darned thieves!) :( Still need to find a better locking solution than the dzus fastener that came with the kit... may have to...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Just picked up my M1010 from the transmission shop, the 700R4 swap went well, and it's MUCH better on the freeway, and much quieter too. The lower first gear helps it get moving better too. I still have to get used to the different shift points, and the kick down may not quite be working...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Put my personalized Amateur Radio call sign plates on it earlier in the week, and drove it over to the transmission shop in Visalia that is going to do the 700r4 swap, so they could see what would be involved (very little, since the TH400 and 700r4 are the same length, and I have a complete...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Fuel gauge stopped working, reads all the way to the right (points straight to the passenger side). So, something (ground or sender, or possibly wiring) has gone bad. I don't want to drop the tank, may have to find the wire on it's way there and interrupt it instead (don't want to mess with...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Changed the ignition and door locks (took about 2 hours, not in a hurry, used GMCPaul's parts), now I don't have to crawl through the ambulance to unlock the doors. Drove it about 5 miles to warm it up, and took it through the drive-thru at Taco Bell... I should be fine at 9 foot...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Ordered a new coolant overflow bottle (bottom mount broken, so you can't fill it without it leaking, but it holds enough to handle expansion), and brake pedal pads (both parking and service brake) from the local GM dealer. Ordered the ignition lock set and door locks (from GMCPAULS), as the...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

That will work fine, except you need to make sure the chassis is not grounded on anything that's powered from the 12V-24V rear battery, or it'll short the 12V front battery to ground. I suppose you could draw 12V just fine for most uses off of the front battery. I'm probably just going to add...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Oh, they're not done, as I mentioned, they just sent it all to Sacramento. I expect to at least have to send them a check (or maybe pay online, as they do a lot online now), and possibly have to make a return visit. I wish she'd have processed the title / body changes first, then the amateur...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Went down to CA DMV, transferred title, had them change the body style from PK to MH (a M1010 is more of a motorhome than a pickup, and that's what mine is becoming), and requested my amateur radio call sign plate. Unfortunately, the whole system went into suspense on the amateur radio plate...
