dove in headstrong painting the truck this week, a very laborious job to say the least...3 hours of steam cleaning, 2 days of sanding all the metal, 1 hour of taping all the lights mirrors and glass. 1 day of 3 coats of heavy duty rust resistant primer. 1 full day of shooting the 383 green paint...
started the huge task of prepping for paint, spent 3 hours yesterday with a hotsy hydro-blaster steam cleaner, and a bunch of degreaser, to get the flat black off the deuce. turns out the truck has had 2 coats of paint besides the flat black. it's initial paint was green, then at some point was...
tieing up some loose ends today, put on my driver and passenger cab steps...stumps and treelines seem to be a problem for the previous owner, also removed the homemade battery box he made... out of 1x12's and roofing nails. and replaced it with a nice plastic stock replacement, looks great...
found this tag today inside of my glovebox,, good to know it was rustproofed in 87 when it was new. probably why the truck has not one spot of rust on the whole thing. is there any way to find out where this truck came from or any info? I know its probably a longshot!?
That's a bummer I was hoping to find out where the truck originally came from and any info on what it's job was or where it was attached. Makes me feel even more confident about my truck purchase, I got a great deal
got to work on a few things.....:-P went on a short trip to southern Oklahoma and found a great deal on a fender, hood, window glass, door handles fuel gauge, kill pull switch...and a few other things to start bringing my deuce back up to par, the previous owner let a 300+ pound girl on the...
Yes the previous owner put in some aftermarket gauges from oreilly's the temp gauge was nice, the truck never ran over 180 on the way home. I've heard good things about Por-15, I just want to make shure I do a good Job and make 100% shure I will have a clean tank from now on.
I have heard you can also use brass BB's in the tank roll it down a hill, the brass isn't as harsh. haven't tried that yet. I bought muratic acid at my local lowe's, came in a gallon jug and they still sell it no questions asked. after I bought this mean green degreaser, I found the zep purple...
went south to OKC last weekend and picked up a nice m35a2 bed, its not a cargo dropside bed, but paying less than scrap price I was more than happy to drag it home. not to mention he loaded it with a forklift. :-D I also dove into my fuel tank, cleaned it with mean green degreaser and after...
I took the fuel pump out today, looked surprisingly better than I thought. then took the fuel tank out and inspecting the bottom I found caked WMO sludge/rust particles/dirt....evrerywhere. I know the tank is baffeled so im wondering what the rear portion looks like since I cant see the bottom...
I started cleaning out the tank today, drained all the diesel and oil remnants...and rust. any good advice on cleaning out the tank? should I do an in tank coating? its not super scaly or rusty. but does need a good cleaning at the very least.
i'll try to get some pics of the stripper pole tomorrow, before I left with the truck he had to clean out 5 to 10 bras and some bud light that was as hot as the texas sun rolling around in the floor board. the bras were from some big ol cows...
finally decided to bite the bullet on a deuce, so I set my sights on an m35a2c W/W in Roanoke Texas, 10,300 miles. painted flat black which I wasn't to excited about, but I could change the color so no big deal. troop seats and bows removed. and stripper pole added...wow  the guy I got...
