Glad you took it off, before it came off. The way the pintle is attached, I'm almost surprised they don't fall off by themselves, without towing anything.
Funny, I had 8 miles of 8% grade. Also not following your father's advice, eventually my 1009 had a Banks turbo, 700R4, and 4.10 3/4-ton axles. Those mods made the beer runs (and any run up the hill) far more pleasurable.
