So I bought a M1070, now maybe I should learn something about them.

Sometimes you just want to build something that is different. Sometimes a friend buys something and medical issues he needs some cash and has a crazy truck sitting in the garage. Sometimes it good to rack your brain and push yourself to do something different, make something that forces you to...

Thank you, ramps look beefy surprised at that but that works. With that now I can model the weight distribution for the truck pretty well, and come up with a realistic capacity. Appreciate the help. Now I would like to open up another can of worms. Diagnostic work for engine transmission etc...

Perfect that is what I really needed! Any idea about the fifth wheel and ramp setup?

So I bought a M1070, now maybe I should learn something about them.

I have been operating water tenders, engines, sink trailers, potable water trucks, bladder trucks, and grey water trucks since 1987 for fires as a contractor. Have been on fires in 26 states. We currently run 12 tenders, so this is not my first rodeo. When I say that trailers are not an option...

So Do you have any idea what the winches and cables weigh. That is the thing I need most at this time. Thanks. I am getting the feeling that they are bound for scrap yard. Two reasons they can grab them right off the truck and two I don’t need the lawn art while trying to sell them. I run...

So I bought a M1070, now maybe I should learn something about them.

Yes that is the plan, once I find out the actual weight of winches that will be removed I will have a better idea of the design of the tank. We want to keep center of gravity as low as possible. Found plenty of information for center of gravity etc for the truck from factory. So will be able to...

So I bought a M1070, now maybe I should learn something about them.

The way tenders operate we stay well away from the fire and fill engines as they come out. Roads we operate on are usually gravel and narrow. A trailer is not an option. Even this truck will be limited at times for access most tenders are under 4000 gallons with a lot at 2500.

What needs to be modified, assuming just some kind of interlock to bypass as I will need the pto to be active while moving if I go the hydraulic pump route. These are the kind of things that someone that has never been around a piece of equipment will save days of troubleshooting and...

Forgive my ignorance but the payout cable winch is the one that pulls the big winch cable out? So would you say 5k for the big winch and 3k for the payout would get rid of them? When I sell something I like to price it to sell, I don’t like spending a bunch of time with that.

So I bought a M1070, now maybe I should learn something about them.

So if I am interpreting this correctly the hydraulic pump is above the frame rails? Not planning a pto pump. Two ways to go with pump. Either a hydraulic driven pump or I will place a motor driven pump on the platform right behind the “sleeper”. Other option is to modify the tank shape so that...

Thanks for the reply. 45 is fine with me, never in a hurry anymore. You have a starting point for pricing the winch? Even ballpark 5k, 10k 15k 20k. I really have no idea. As for the flasher can’t really put a value on that at my age so priceless. Lol

So I bought a M1070, now maybe I should learn something about them.

So kind of a spur of the moment thing I ended up with a M1070. The plan is to make it into a water tender for fire fighting. I really don’t know anything about these trucks except they are slow. I found this forum and thought I may be able to get some help. I have no use for the winch. So...
