    Galvanized Deuce Wheels

Yeah, that too ! I was just telling my son yesterday after WWII P-38 planes where being sold for $1.00 each ! Now those same planes will cost you over a million dollars !

    Galvanized Deuce Wheels

Got the last two wheels welded up today. A little touch-up with the sander to get rid of the welding splatter and now this Monday they will go back to the sand-blasters to get the welds blasted. Don't want any welding slag underneath the Galvanizing.

    Galvanized Deuce Wheels

That's a great tool catalog ! To bad you can no longer get those tire tools. I see where the military got the idea to use the Ken Tool "Powerench" .

    Galvanized Deuce Wheels

Well after galvanizing 23 wheels I'm getting ready to galvanize 10 more. This time though I'm welding the seams shut. It seems that the last batch of 10 had crud in the seams and even after sand-blasting they still had crud that exploded in the galvanizing tank. Made the galvanizers pretty...

    Galvanized Deuce Wheels

I forgot to add, the special pry bar I used to get the ring up is a "Snap-On TR100". They cost about $72.00 . There are many different types of pry bars out there, but this one I have found has worked the best for our military wheels .

    Galvanized Deuce Wheels

So with your trusty bead breaker in hand start with the ring side up. Usually it will take two to three positioning's of the tool to bust the bead. Once the bead is broken you can take your "Ring" pry bar (a special pry bar for split ring wheel with a 3/4" wide straight tip at one end and a...

    Galvanized Deuce Wheels

There are several tools available for this task. I've found there are three which are the best. The first one is the "Duck Bill Sledge hammer" . It works Ok, but takes a lot of strength and energy. Here's a tip if you use this one, use soapy water on the wheel. This allows the wedge part to...

    Galvanized Deuce Wheels

Well as promised here is my little tutorial on "breaking down" a Deuce (or 5 ton) wheel. First off take out the "Schrader Valve" from the tire valve stem. Now your ready to bust the bead which can be the hardest part of the whole job.

    Galvanized Deuce Wheels

True. I should have specified that as long as the tire does not move from the wheel rim it is safe to re-inflate. Now if after you let all the air out from the tire and it moves from the wheel rim then "Yes" put it back in the "tire cage" or remount it on the truck to inflate the tire. It is the...

    Galvanized Deuce Wheels

Well to continue my little tutorial on mounting tires, here I'm installing the assembled tire unit to the wheel. Align the valve stem with the wheel cut-out and lower the tire down at an angle. Then push down the valve stem towards the cut-out and slowly push the tire into the wheel...

    Galvanized Deuce Wheels

I found that originally the first M35's came with galvanized wheels ! Some of my 1954 M35 wheels with the rivets underneath all the paint and crus where galvanized. Totally surprised me to ! Then I looked up the original NSN # and data chart and found they came galvanized from the factory as per...

    Galvanized Deuce Wheels

The wheels are back. Now I need to clean them up a bit and start installing the tires.

    Galvanized Deuce Wheels

Since it is getting harder and harder to find a shop that will work on our tires I thought I would give a short little "tutorial" on tire mounting for those who have never done it. Later I will show how to bust down a tire once I start on my other deuce. If you ordered new tires they will come...

    Galvanized Deuce Wheels

HaHaHa You win ! Even though I already bought a carton of "Cold Galvanizing Spray Paint" and two gallons of "Flat Black Paint" , I'll hold off painting them for awhile.

    Galvanized Deuce Wheels

I like the idea of seeing how high I can make it "bounce" ! Of course that would take some serious hydraulics to perform that feat !

    Galvanized Deuce Wheels

If I don't paint them then the "Zombies" will see me coming down the road and eat me !

    Galvanized Deuce Wheels

I got three wheels together today. I'm pretty sore now too ! As far as "tit's" go. Yes there are some. I have to go over the whole wheel and ring with a file to knock them down. One interesting fact though. The tires don't "pop" when inflating. They just slowly slide on the galvanizing until...

    Galvanized Deuce Wheels

Well I finally had it with rusting wheels ! I took off all my wheels and some spares I had laying around (21 total) and busted them down. I kept the good tires and tossed the rest. Then I took my wheels and rings and had them sand blasted. Then I took them to "Seattle Galvanizing" in Arlington...
