3 phase does not have to be feared. It is actually more efficient. Just planning to balance loads and a 3 phase distribution. Power your house from A&B phase and run 120vac from distribution C phase
to garage to keep beer cold. Use an inductive load like an electric heater on C phase as load bank. A,B,C phase do not have to be exactly pulling same amps, but the closer the better but not show stopper.
Just curious on this setup what you set the voltage at so that the A&B voltage is high enough without the C phase being too high? Thinking of getting a gen for my house with 2 3-ton AC's and a 2.5 ton split Mitsubishi unit. Seems like a 15 kw would be better but my concern is the voltage.

If you are running in 3 phase mode on the generator you can bump it maybe a little but you shouldn't try to get it up to 230-240v range. Appliances will run fine at 208-215.

As an example you can reference this data sheet for a Mitsubishi unit I found on the web and it lists the acceptable power as 208/230-1-60. http://icpindexing.toddsit.com/documents/086477/42101922000.pdf

In the industrial setting we run single phase 240v equipment on 2 phases of 208 all the time. Nature of the beast since single phase doesn't exist.

So...I won 3 MEP 803A generators... I only wanted one but I thought bidding would be more competitive. Lesson learned. I never bid on a government liquidation before. Looks like I will be renting a trailer to get these home. I guess I will fix/test all of them and sell of two.

Sounds like you hit a lucky sale or bid too high on three units. Most of the sales I watch go way over what I would pay for one. I got lucky on mine and got one that was pretty good mechanical but looked like ass so the bidding didn't get too crazy.

I'm not sure if I am allowed to say what I paid on this site but I know they are strict on posting auction data. The three I won were high hour units. The engines looked good and most if not all parts were visibly intact. One of them looks like the engine is brand new. That or someone pulled the engine, painted it and stuck it back in there - seems like a lot of trouble for no benefit.

Just FYI with high hour units be ready to track down little electrical issues and get lots of electrical cleaner for contact. The engines and generator heads are beast but the electronics can be a headache. Sometimes if the engine looks new it probably is, you may find a small tag on the front panel near the gauges that says this unit has been maintained to a certain standard and will have a space for an hour reading to be written in with a magic marker. They repair it but it doesn't go through a full rebuild and it will keep the same hour meter.

Hope they all run but realistically one will end up donor for other two. You did fine. Not likely any of use would wear a mid life unit the rest of the way out anyway. So those hours aren't bad and likely aren't accurate anyway.

They will automatically debit your credit card for the payment in the next couple of days. Then OKC has their pickup calendar online that you will see. Then you just pick your day and time for pickup, real easy. Take your ID and a couple of copies of your paid in full invoices.

Rent (or borrow?) a trailer with a rear gate. Take a heavy chain and make a big loop through 2 of the 4 tie down rings... hook that to your vehicles hitch (or ATV hitch or other) and just slide/pull them off the trailer. The aluminum skids they are on will more than take it... Good luck.

In that case, I averaged $830 per unit. The hours are estimated 4K, 5K and 6K.
If that is just the auction fee your cost will go up from there. GL charges a 12% buyer's premium plus sales tax for the state/county the units are sold in.

These skids don't slide all that easy on metal. I had mine in the back of my pickup and winched it out onto a trailer for starters. After I got it sorted out I drug it off the trailer with my tractor. When I was winching it out of the truck I had to put tension on the cable then work the unit side to side with a crowbar to get it to move then I would retention the cable some more.

Look over any maintenance notes they may have and make sure you add oil and at least water before attempting to start them. Be ready to shut it back down and replace the return fuel hoses. If they hadn't been done recently they will most likely leak. I used 1/8"/3.2mm Gates fuel hose for the small return lines. I bought it at Oreily auto parts. The short hoses have the crimped metal clamping that can be cut away and replaced with 1/4" fuel hose.

You will need some way to load the units for testing and sorting other than your house. One quick and easy solution is to find a cheap or free electric range. They take up considerable space but are pretty much a ready to use load bank. I saw one local to me in the free section on Craigslist the other day.

I believe $830 was average price before fees. I bought 7 out of the same auction and I believe I know which units he won.

After looking over what you got.
All the units all have the major pieces in place. Control panels are all complete. All units have 24v PulseTech solar chargers, Make yourself new battery ends. A good pressure washing and those units will clean up nicely.
