My truck body book from 1984 shows the same thing for CUCV cab chassis. It has 4.56 as axle ratio. Weights are the same. I was reading the Dayco spring manual and never thought about looking at the GM manual. This book says (see blue tab section for specifications details) Interesting the list price on a std equipped K30 with 8 ft bed is less then $10K. Nice.

The nomenclature on the drivers door shows Front Curb LBS 3325 GVW LBS Front 3660
M1008 Rear Curb LBS 2575 GVW LBS Rear 5140
Total Curb LBS 5900 GVW LBS 8800 MAX
I know the M1028 has a different rear GVW but I do think the front is the same.

Exactly. That data plate shows "axle" rating, not necessarily vehicle load rating nor spring capacity. The tires are the limiting factor in the rear, unless it is a dually, yet the plate still says 7500, rather than the 6084 total of the tires. Regardless of actual spring capacity, I believe those axles are capable of supporting 4500 and 7500, respectively.

Well, at least the plate agrees with the official GM data - which is most likely where those numbers came from.

Had my 1008 for a while. When I got the truck it had a 4 leaf spring pack in the front. I believe the previous owner replaced them. From what I understand it should be a 3 leaf pack. Well the 3 leafs look to be sagging so bad that what I think is a full length add a leaf is binding them up and the individual springs in the pack are pushing apart from each other. I do not want to lift the truck. I use the truck as a truck and want to retain the weight capacity of the original front springs. My questions are what company's make a quality stock replacement spring. And is it supposed to be a 3 or 4 leaf. Thanks for the help

Similar to my other posting I would install, [1973 - 1987] GM 4X4 FRONT LEAF SPRING, 1900 LBS CAPACITY, 4 LEAF, they can be purchased for $105.00 each [$210.00 for a pair] plus the shipping cost. Heavy Duty Front Shackle Kit with greasable bolts, cost around $100.00. I would change the leaf spring bushing and shock bushings to Energy Suspension polyurethane also change new spring mounting studs on the Dana 60 while the springs are being changed and do the work myself.

Regards

Joseph

Joseph, I hope you realize that by putting those 3/4-ton springs on a 1-ton, you give up 700 lbs. of capacity in the front.
If you never carry any loads to speak of, that could help ride quality. Or if you only use bumper pull trailers, which transfer load off of the front axle, they may also work just fine.

FLU, I stand corrected. I have not located 2250 lb factory front leaf spring

Would you know of a company or source for new 2250 lb front leaf spring?

Sorry, Joseph, I've never tried finding any. But if I did, my first call would be to a friend at a GM dealership.
If he couldn't locate any NOS, I'd try having a set made.
If I were in need of "better" springs and had more time, I'd take a try at re-arching them myself. Or, I could buy a very mild lift spring and try my luck at de-arching it.

CUCV Front Replacement Springs

Hoping to help those looking for suitable replacement springs. Just going to provide some facts.

Here is what the -34P lists as the part numbers and USABLE ON CODEs for the front springs on CUCV's:
22 PAFZZ 11862 460354 SPRING ASSEMBLY,LEA UOC:194,208,210,230,231,252,254,256 Page 148-1
21 PAFZZ 11862 460354 SPRING ASSEMBLY,LEA UOC:209 Page 149-1

Note that the part numbers for the front springs are THE SAME for all CUCV variants.

These springs have NSN 2510-01-148-5049.

A lookup on parts cross reference provides the following as suitable replacement part numbers: https://www.wbparts.com/rfq/2510-01-148-5049.html
22402, 22-402, 460354, 2510-01-148-5049, 01-148-5049, 2510011485049 , 011485049

(NOTE: 22-402 was mentioned earlier in this thread as an option used by others including myself, Dayton/Stanley 22-402)
I acquired mine from http://www.stengelbros.net/. They have provided fast shipping and very good service. Their search on the GM part no. crosses to the 22-402 springs. http://www.stengelbros.net/search.asp?keyword=460354&search=

These springs have worked well for me in two CUCV's. YMMV.

Well I haven't gotten around to ordering my front springs yet. I notice I had a cracked leaf on the rear pack. So that was priority. I ordered my rear springs from ats springs. Part number 22-617hd. Got them installed. They seem to be a quality leaf pack. The owner is very knowledgeable. Shipping wasn't too bad considering the weight. But in about 2 weeks I'll be ordering the front from him as well. Part # 22-402 hd. He said the spring metal that his packs are made in Canada. Where some other company's use China or Malaysian steel. So I'm hoping that these will hold up good. Time will tell

Good find on the broken rear spring. [thumbzup]
Were the replacements ATS brand or another manufacturer? This should help others make a more informed decision.

22-617 and 22-617HD are numbers used by Dayton on their springs.
True, however I know from personal experience that the same part numbers are used by at least one other manufacturer. A friend ordered from General Spring and did not receive Dayton/Stanley parts, unfortunately neither of us made note of what the supplier was at the time just that he received a different spring and he paid a lot less than I had. One of his front springs started to sag by over an inch in less than 2 years causing a very noticeable lean in the truck. My Stanley's are still running strong over 4 years later. He replaced the sagging springs with Stanley's from Stengel's as I had and has had no further issues.

Current price from General Spring for the 22-617 is $159.99
Current price from Stengel for the 22-617 is $190.95

Good to know. Maybe the part number is an aftermarket industry standard.
My friend found pictures he took when he replaced the bad springs. Same part number as the Stanley/Dayton that Stengel sold me. 22-402.

Note the difference in the rebound clip between the General Spring and the Stanley/Dayton:
