I'm planning on installing a '96 model 6.5T in my '08 in the future. Problem is I'm totally in love with the 24v starter. The 6.5T has a working A/C compressor on it which I'd like to keep. That leaves no room for another alternator.

I did some searching and found that older diesel trucks used a parallel-series relay to accomplish running a 24v starter using two batteries and one 12v alternator.

Any of you old salts have experience with this type of setup?

The CUCV-IIs use a 24v starter and a 12v alternator. They don't use the parallel switch, they use a 12v/24v power inverter to charge the second battery.

One thing the writeup doesn't cover is the type of switch or part numbers. The relays would have to be heavy duty to handle all the current.
