I concur it's the older XL tires that have the wavy sidewalls that are prone to the blow outs. Although ALL versions of the tires have had blow outs it is the XL that is the oldest version and is the most prone to it.

Quick rule of thumb without looking closely at the sidewalls. If you can fit your fist between the rear tires, 14's. If you can't slide a finger between the rear tires, 16's.
