Looking at the surroundings I would guess late 41 war maneuvers in Louisiana, TN or the Carolinas.
Steel Soldiers now has a few new forums, read more about it at: New Munitions Forums!
Photo has a date notation of Apr 91 and possible an location of IN or Indiana. May just be the date the photo was logged in since it is black and white.A very good friend of mine works closely with the Patton Museum folks and when he saw this truck was tied to the 3rd Army he started digging. Here is a pic he found...with no additional info...yet:
Oh great...now you tell me!! A couple of different folks at the MVPA Convention had Life Magazines from the early 40's on up but we couldn't determine WHICH month Life posted the pic posted way up in this thread. They were all in sealed plastic so we couldn't just thumb through them either. If that is the Louisiana maneuvers then you should take a look at the Life Magazine OCT 6 1941 issue. That issue covered the maneuvers and was an 11 page article.
Mystery solved!!! I forgot Tony had attached two pics to the email and when I opened it again I found the second pic. This was written on the back of the pic of the K18/19:Those are fir trees, so I would guess a northern clime.
You win a free CAMO meal at the GA Rally Porta John! And I was right about it being a northern climate........
Thank you Sir...all the credit for the truck goes to Commander Warp, (zout). That is sure one beautiful truck.
Negative. We've found maybe five trucks but ZERO trailers so far.Do you know of one of those trailers that you can put your hands on?
Fill the box with cases of Crown. Nobody will care about the engine missing
I just hope everything comes together so we can have time to do SOMETHING inside the box before the GA Rally.
Have you tried contacting the Signal Corps Regimental Association? http://www.signalcorps.org/ You might be able to find a member that is familiar with the K18 and trailer, although WWII vets are leaving us in large numbers now.Negative. We've found maybe five trucks but ZERO trailers so far.
I'd like to come bring her home Monday the 14th if she's not in the way too much. Maybe Tony, BB, and I can bring the dually and trailer W/W up and
Cannot believe that baby is still sittin in my yard - I might have to make a camper out of it
