The year 2020. And after several days searching I give up trying to find it here and ask for help.
Finally decided my truck, which the ID tags say is 1973 (overhauled) but hood and SN makes clear is 1965, will be painted in the correct 1965 paint color OD 24087 with white lettering and star.
Not opening a can of paint but a can of worms .
Found numerous threads on this (both SteelSoldiers and other forums), most referring to Dave Doyles work. The 1965 OD 24084 was given by the FS 595, dated 1956, with several additions or amendments valid until 1968. It became x-24087, the 24087 again, and finally in F959B 24084. The later 24087 mentioned in FS595C is a different color, and the 24084 is discontinued also (or I could not find 100% sure the same color).
Nice and good. But several references to what the composition of this paint is either refer to no longer existing paint products or products which I cannot get here in the Czech Republic. The searches I did on the FS595A or FS595B all ended up in "no longer used" and jumped to 595C or later, which throws up either an error or the wrong 24087.
Does anybody has the composition of the old 1965 Olive Drab 24087 in terms of either internationally recognized codes or paint composition, like so much of this and so much of that?
