1965 M109a3 Transmission Drain Plug

Hello All,

I have a 1965 M109a3 and I noticed the transmission drain plug is GONE!!! Fortunately the hole is very shiny and has no dirt or nastiness on it which suggests it may have simply fallen out fairly recently. Either way, I need a new plug and washer. Any idea where I can find one of these? I greatly appreciate it.

You're not talking about the missing plug in the bell housing are you?

The best way to find what you need is to look in the parts Technical manuals. Find the part, and it's National Stock Number(NSN). Then Google the number. Part Tarrget is just one of hundreds of websites that will come up in a search, and they often have all the needed information you'll need to source the part(ie. NPT size)

Go to the top of the page under Technical Manuals, download an Operator's Manual for a Deuce and read through it. The issue you describe comes up about once a month and is covered in that TM.

Can you take a pic of the missing plug location (or a couple) and post them? I always like to confirm the part you are inquiring about is the part I think it is.

I don't have the luxury of reading a technical manual right now and it would put my mind at ease to know where the information is regarding the issue that could have effortlessly been addressed.

I hate helping people who won't help themselves. You don't have to sit down with 5 TM's and read each one cover to cover. The basic operations TM has this information, and a large picture. This issue comes up at least once a month, if not once a week. It is extremely simple and of no concern. These trucks are not like civi trucks and cars. you have to care for them and inform yourself with their specific operations and layout. The only way to do that is to become familiar with the TMs.

What's up with the points thing? I've never heard of that. I've posted pictures from my phone and home without any ill effects.

So, now this thread is 3hrs old, and you still don't have the answer. I would bet you could have found the answer in the TM in 5min.

It's not that we are being mean, we are trying to help you in the long run by making you do a little research. If you aren't willing to do that, you need to sell the truck.

Tapatalk allows you the option of posting pictures from your phone.

TMs can usually be found on fleabay. Reading a couple of thousand pages will put anyone asleep. Make sure you extinguish your cigar first.

I can understand that about the smoke. Several members here have manuals listed in the classifieds I think.

Ebay is another good source. I think some of the larger surplus dealers sell them. If I had a spare one I'd mail it to you.

It is the deuce operators manual you need first, then you can get the maintenance manuals later.

If you have a good printer, you can go to the TM section of this site and print it out. All the manuals are here. Or you can save the manuals to a jump drive, and go to a kinkos or some such place, and they can print it out, but you'd probably pay the same as for a hard copy, and the hard copy fits better in the map box of the truck.

Portrayal Press has all (most) of the deuce TM's on paper. I believe they're under new mgmt. and have a new focus on service and fresh material. I bought all of the deuce TM's them in 2003 and spent over $300 but like you said, it's nice to relax in the chair in the evening with a paper book and browse through it.

I don't get the need for tap talk. I upload pictures just fine from my android using my browser. Just tap manage attachments and upload directly from my phones photo gallery.

Also the search function on this forum can be of great use.

I think it must have something to do with which version of Android you're running or something like that, because mine would bring up the add attachments screen and then not let you add anything. Haven't tried it since the upgrade as I've had Tapatalk.
