1970 2.5 ton m35a2 oil leak on driver side leaf

Hi all!

First post here, curious to see what you guys say...

I seem to have an oil leak somewhere on driver side, I have a decent amount on the leaf.... Checked the oil several times, oil reads ok any suggestions to get this patched up? Or common problems? ..... Thank you in advance for any responses or suggestions!!!!

Is it motor oil or gear oil ? If the pinion seal is leaking it will oil everything.
Best bet is to power wash it down and look for fresh oik.

Edit; What model AM General ?
5 ton it could be the power steering.

Its it's a bobbed 2.5 ton 1970

Hey guys! I think I may have posted this in the wrong location before apologies for the repost, but I have oil leak running onto the driver side leaf .... Wondering if anyone out there has any ideas or run into something similar in the past ..... Thank you again, and again apologies on the repost.

This would be a guessing game on our part, but my guess is injection pump. The ferrules commonly go bad and spring a leak.

I'll have to look into that, thanks! It was odd to me once I opened the side and had the hood propped I didn't see any oil in the engine compartment, seems to be mainly on the frame rail and leaf. Dipstick reads ok too after several checks

Do you know if its engine oil? What about the steering gearbox?

No power steering in this thing.... It's all muscle power hahaha

If your running wmo it could be a fuel leak.

Possible could be coming from slobber tube off of the air compressor.

I was thinking possible fuel leak as well.... The injectors and lines are on the drivers side as well but wasn't sure what to make if everything cause the engine compartment is dry

Steering gear has 90W gear oil in it, leaks out when you turn on a worn gear shaft /seal. Don't worry it will stop when you run out.

All the info is much appreciated everyone- helps a bunch for trouble shooting .... I'm the only one around my parts with a deuce so picking brains is difficult out here

The things that can leak there are motor oil, steering gearbox oil, coolant, or fuel from the IP.

I'll guess the steering gear... That is what mine looked like when it started leaking. I was lucky, I topped mine off with Lucas a few times and then it stopped leaking... Yes, it is still full as it is verified as part of my pre-trip inspections

I had a similar issue recently. However, my steering gear box had Lucas in it and still leaked. I drained the box and re-filled with John Deere corn head grease.

So I figure the steering box is pouring gear oil out the shaft seal, the injection pump is leaking or the air compressor is leaking oil somewhere.

I would soak the entire front end with degreaser, clean it and drive it a little and see if you can more clearly diagnose the source.

I changed out the corn grease for gear oil but I think I need to go back to corn grease.
