http://gastateparks.org/net/go/parks.aspx?LocationID=29 Copy and Paste the link in your browser for park details. After working with Atomic on his truck today, we came up with an idea of a get together for members close to the Veterans State Memorial Park for 27 July. They have a small Museum and some old military vehicles on static display out front. They have a public "Beach" on Lake Blackshear for the kids to play in and plenty of grills for cooking. There is a $3 dollar fee for park access per vehicle but you can go to your public library and get a pass for free. It'd be like a GA Rally without the overnight campfire but they do offer camping for a fee. I'll probably camp with my family as practice for the Rally. I don't think we can get quite as drunk and loud at this park but it would be a good "shakedown" trip for your MV to ensure you're ready for the road in October. Like Zout's cookout, bringing an MV would be optional but if you can, do bring it. It'd certainly nice to see some of ya'll more than once a year. I'm open to any suggestions as this is only Proposed at this point and not much planning has taken place.

If anyone breaks down near the area, I've always got a towbar, chains and airlines if towing an M809 or M939 series truck. I can get you there and could quite possibly fix it.

Don't forget to hit the Striplings general store at 280 across from the park entrance for some good spiced sausage for grilling! I buy some everytime I'm up visiting my brother-in-law in Montezuma. My favorite is the medium fresh, but the jalapeno is good too. They make their own sausage and have other types of meat also.

sandcobra164, if I'm there in July, I will drop by.

Nice Video JoeCool, I hope you make it. I'm in 2nd Foot in F Co 148th based out of Albany.
Our unit was a part of your unit back when it was 2nd BN HQ. I had many old friends from the HQ and OMS shop, all gone or retired by now. You probably know Freddy Johnson the supply guy. I taught him in high school, and he was in the supply section of our unit way back when.
Thanks for the comment about the video.

I'd love to go but we have a family reunion each year on the fourth Sunday in July. Whatever happened to the Spring Rally in NW GA that was discussed a while back? I believe it was at a mud bog park.

Happy to see some interest. I'll be cooking a good bit of stuff as my youngest turns 5 during the week this will go on. He's a big fan of CUCV's and really loves his Sarge which is my M1028. I'll let him and his mother drive it and I'll bring the Deuce as my oldest like's it the best. It's a little ways out but I can't wait to see some folks there.

I've camped there before Joseph. I camped right on the edge of the lake. I love it, and wouldn't miss this one except I'll be in Massachusetts for a wedding. Dang!
And yes, I always stop at Striplings for some of the best sausage or steak one can find anywhere. It's one of my favorites, right up there with the Hawkinsville butcher shop.

As a young boy, in the safety patrol, or whatever we called it, (we helped kids cross the road to school), I went on a summer camp there for a week and camped out in a boy scout camp they used to keep there. It was a real hoot.

Lake Blackshear has some great striper fishing by the deep water of the dam, good crappie fishing everywhere, great bream fishing, and a few gators under the cypress trees. $10K fine for catching a gator. It's not like swamp people in Louisiana.

I'm not sure if I would bring my pontoon boat or my MV, but I sure wish I had that problem. Hate that I have to go to a wedding, but, I'll be eating live Maine Lobster and cherry clams all week so it won't be to bad. Have fun guys. This is one you really need to go to. It's perfect, and in my opinion, better then Durhamtown for outdoors activity, but you don't have the trail rides and mud holes, which make it not quite as thrilling for those who like to get their MVs a good run. I give this one a thumbs up for all possibilities.

Bring a canoe or raft to cool off in. They also have excellent cabins, but you better get those reservations in early. They stay booked up for good reason.

The date's not set in stone 3D, it's just proposed. As long as we do it while the kids are out of school, we can move the date around. I'd be more than happy to move it back a week or 2.

If you move it, be sure to let us know. I will help if I can.
I would love to find out (and I can call and ask) if they would let us get some campsites grouped together so we MVers could camp close together, and maybe even have a vendor area at our campsite. I recall the campsites were larger then what we are accustomed, with picnic tables and grills, on the lake in many instances. It would be a great place to walk around and swim and cool off, and buy/sell, if they would allow us a "swap meet". Just a thought or two....
Just a really cool place for ALL the family to enjoy. Kids CANNOT get bored there.

Well, tell me what date is good for you Mr. Emerson, I'll see if I can get a mod to change the date in the thread title. If you'd like to contact to park for the other ideas such as group camping and vendor spaces, feel free to take the lead and I'll be along for the ride. My intent is to just have a get together during the summer while the kids are out of school. I look forward to what you come up with and can't wait to see everyone there.

All depends between now and then of how I work some vac time and with the 4 grandsons - not promising but it sure sounds tempting.

Joseph, This is your song. I love it. I just want to help out, but with your permission. I'll pass on anything I can find out and you can publish.
I'm good anytime after April is out. You guys talk it over and see what works best for ya'll.
Maybe we can come up with some big hams out of Striplings or something if Zout makes it and he'll give us some cooking lessons. I'll be happy to pick them up and cover.
I'll call down as soon as you come up with an alternate date. Just let me know. Hopefully, Ben will make it down with the new date too.

Actually, it's Atomic's song, it was his idea!!! I'm just socializing the idea at this point. Once we have a firm date, we'll move forward and you can contribute all the info that you wish. Only helps us plan. I'd like to propose the 20th or 13th of July and most responses for either date wins. I'm glad we started this a good ways out. Let's set a date and move forward. I just want a good showing. Also Mr. Emerson, please contact the park concerning camping and vending concerns and let us know what you come up with. Who know's, the GA Rally started as an event with about 10 trucks and most all of us know what that grew into. I would never see this event growing to that magnitude as there is no trail riding that I've seen but who knows. I just like to keep my trucks on the road and love seeing how other's trucks are progressing in person.
