For those of you that have done the civvy 6.5 turbo swap have you kept it 24 volt or switched to 12 volt? I have ran across a awesome deal on a civvy 6.5 turbo with a 4x4 4l80.

Well, how much of a swap are you going to do? What year truck is it coming from? Is it a mechanical IP? What are your plans for a computer for the 4L80E?

The truck is a 94 or 96, I can't remember right off the top of my head. I plan to swap the engine trans and transfer case from the totalled donor. Can't I use that computer? I don't know about the mechanical IP. I am thinking that it is electric? Right?

The IP switch to electronic in 94. The transfer case is a left hand drop on the newer trucks if memory serves me correct. will need a right hand drop. Yes if you have the complete truck just use the wire harness and computer for the 6.5. Switch the cucv to 12 volt, will be much easier to work with. Just cut and splice your gauge and ignition wires into the 6.5 wire harness.

The early 6.5s with 4L80Es used separate TCM modules (transmission control modules), whereas gas engines used PCMs (powertrain control modules). 1991 to 1993 as I recall. These are easier to retrofit into other diesel trucks then the newer units. When 6.5s dropped the DB2 pumps and when to the electronic DS4s, the ECMs were used to control the 4L80E trans.

In regard to the partly- 24 volt/partly 12 volt military wiring - you're much better off making your system pure 12 volt.
