6 gallons more than what it is supposed to hold? Did you put the plug back in the pan?

Ill go measure my stick and report back (no reply's from the peanut gallery needed) but I think you got bigger problems than you think.

Sorry I miss read your post. It sounded to me that you put 6 gallons more than you were supposed to.

Believe it or not I have personally seen non-mech. type people fill and engine up to the valve cover with oil because they couldnt see the oil yet when they were filling it up and just kept adding oil till they could see it.

Did you check it with the motor running or off?
Taken from the 800 series Lube Order:

2 . CRANKCASE
CAUTION
• Withdraw dipstick slowly to ensure accurate reading. There are
two marks on the dipstick, ‘H” and “L”. The quantity of oil
required to raise the oil level from “L” mark to “H” mark is
approximately 7 quarts (6.6 liters). Daily, check and adjust oil
level as required prior to engine operation.
• If water or metal particles are detected during crankcase
draining and filter element changing, notify Direct Support
Maintenance Personnel before refilling crankcase.
NOTE
Ž Fill crankcase with 27 quarts (25.5 liters) of engine oil. Crankcase
capacity is 23 quarts (21.8 liters) and oil filter capacity is 4 quarts (3.8
liters). Start engine and visually check for oil leaks at drain plug and oil
filter case. Stop engine and allow approximately one minute for oil to
drain back into oil pan; recheck oil level with dipstick. The dipstick is
equipped with a seal which fits into the opening of the dipstick tube. The
seal is seated within the tube and must be turned counterclockwise to be
released before dipstick is withdrawn. Turn clockwise to seat after oil
level has been checked and dipstick installed.

Its the right dip stick 37 inch.
I checked it shutdown engine not running on level ground.
I have never run into this problem before
it just dont make sense to me that it tells me to add a certain amount of
oil and than it doesent register on the dipstick properly,
but the oil presssure gauge seems fine.

Well if I'm reading the note from the L.O. right. it says 23qt's in the crankcase. 1 qt shy of 6 gallons. then you ad another 4 qts (1 gallon) for the oil filters. Thats 6.75 gallons. your still 1 qt shy. How long after shut down did you check the dip stick? Did you change the filters too? Are they original type filters or the spin on filters that dont allow the oil to drain back to the pan?

original type filter and i did change it.
I checked it 10 minutes after and the next day
Iwill add more oil i did not know it was a total of allmost 7 gallons.
thats probably my problem.
I check it in a couple of days we have a lot of snow here agian.

I have ran into this problem on trucks over here, sometimes they will read low, and low and low, no matter how much you fill them, then you add one more quart and your 4 inches too far up the dipstick and think WTF...

6.5 to 7 gallons sounds about right for the 250...A little over never hurts as they all will burn a little with use...

I hate to say it but the math is not that complicated guys. Its 4 quarts per gallon. 27 quarts make 6 gallons plus 3 quarts. He is 3 quarts shy. I figured it out as soon as he said he put in 6 gallons. I remembered that i need 7 gallons to do an oil change on my 5 ton. I just rounded it up to 7 gallons to make it easy to remember. I buy the oil by the bucket. 3 buckets for 2 oil changes.fat lady sings
