2600 rpm idle

Since I got my new m35a2 in Jan. From GL it has had an idle issue. I've searched this forum and found no other postings with the same issues as mine. When I got it from GL I had it transported here and the throttle linkage was hanging up really bad. It was hanging up on the spring and slider so I cleaned it and oiled it and the throttle wasnt sticking anymore. Before I even drove it for the first time I bypassed the FDC, changed all the filters, oil, fuel and air. At first the idle problem wasn't a big issue cause I figured it just needed to be drove. Until a couple day ago it was either idling at 2000 rpm's or cutting off. Then I realized that I had the throttle backed off so far that I was controlling the throttle (by the throttle lever) I was actually controlling the fuel shut off rod that's why it was idling at either 2000 rpm's or nothing. I took the FDC cover off and looked and everything seems to be working correctly as far as everything in the governor housing is concerned. The governor is going all the way in and coming out when the throttle is pressed and depressed. The truck has plenty of power and runs great as long as u are driving. Any ideas?

2600RPM is the redline:shock: You took the cover off the FDC or the one on the side of the IP under the hydraulic head? The linkage under the latter can stick and cause problems like this.

I took the FDC cover off cause I thought it was a governor problem. Not the cover under the HH what do I need to look for In there exactly? I don't let it get there I feather it with the engine stop lever. But it will do it. Not like a wide open throttle jump but just a gradual increase to 2600. Thanks for the reply

Your saying that when you start it, it slowly increases to 2600...not revving up that high immediately? Thats strange. Im no pro mechanic but that sounds like maybe something is loose maybe. I dont know though. Maybe you can download the TM for the FDC and HH and read through and look inside yours and see if something is amiss.

Smokewagon66 I've read true the TM's a bit but don't really know a whole lot about an injection pump in general just know they work when they work and can cause crazed stuff to happen when the don't. Thanks

Warthog thanks very informative. I see people all the time get slammed for reposting stuff and I didn't want to be one if those people so I did my fair share of searching. I have read true these but 95 % of the time when I searched I got things that didn't ever pertain to what I needed. But that thread was very informative. I just didn't realize the HH could cause that also it had crossed my mind but didn't really do checking on it. Thanks again fo pointing that out.
