2nd alternator, 12V

Juergen, Thanks for Your time and sharing! I think I am going to cut out a couple of these on my friends cnc plasma table, for myself , and the friend that gave me an M105

What I really like about this,
1 bolt on
2 No modifications-grinding (to the engine or alternator)
3 easy to find off the shelf alternator
4 higher amperage than expensive dc-dc converter
5 more backup battery power
6 12 volts for the rest of us
7 leaves at least one belt going all the way around the original
(24 volt) alternator pulley

When I do this, is there anyone here that might be interested in cut parts? I dont mind the computer cutting out extra pieces, but I dont want to spend alot of time welding if I dont have to. If someone really wants (read needs) a welded piece I might, then again who knows....it would depend on how many people would want one. I would want to earn a little for time and shipping and give some towards using my friends shop -electricity etc.

In no way do I want to make a career out of it ( I am not trying to sound like a jerk). I want to offer what I can to some fellow SS members, but I would need some input as to who might want some. And I probably wont start this up for 2 months or so. All comments welcome..

i,ve been making these for about six months ..to make it a good set up to cut on plasma table the design needed to be tweaked.. i am selling them in the classifieds already .

Hey tm,,, Do you sell the finished( ie welded ) product, or cut parts ? or both?I just want clean cut parts,,, and I got tired of searching threads about alternators. I picked up off this thread since it was Juergen`s idea...and people who liked it might follow suit.

i sell complete welded brackets .. that are built in a jig so i know they fit properly.. i sell it as a kit with the bolts and part numbers for the belt and alt.. MY brackets are cut on a plasma table....BUT like i said i tweaked his design to make it easier to build and so it uses less different materials. my design is make to be cut from flat steel and not have to bend any metal.... i now have a plasma table myself and am gonna be making ac and hydro pump brackets along with lots of other stuff.. I have enough brackets cut to make about 100 more as of right now..As cheap as i sell them it wouldnt be worth the time to try to make them unless you did it on a production level..

Has anyone changed the drive pulley on these altinators? I believe they will be running slower on the diesel than on their intended gassers.

No need to change the pulley. The alt needs to run at 3000 rpm.. which it does plus some. It's not about engine speed but more about alt speed and ratio of the pulleys .. The pulley that come on a delco 10si alt is smaller than the stock deuce alt pulley already . So it is turning faster than the stock alt just how they come..If you put a smaller pulley on it . it will turn to fast and you will have short bearing life.

I doubt that'd be an issue at all. The crank pulley is good sized, an increase for some applications, not a downgrade for any I can think of. The Multifuel engine does most of it's driving at twelve to twenty two hundred RPM, that's way over what you need to get what an alternator has to give. Any extended idling requires raising the RPM anyhow, which gives the alternator an easier life than in another application where that's not required. I wouldn't give it a second thought.
On the other hand, if you wanted it to turn faster, the low redline means you'd have some leeway and wouldn't hurt anything by doing so.

i just installed mine last night! a big thanks to 59apache for the dimensions! i got a half inch shorter belt for the original belt routing for the 24 volt alternator so it is now 46.5 inch belt and the other alternator belt is 53 3/8" belt. they fit on there good and the alternators do not move much to get the belts tight. to tighten the 12 volt alternator, i used a bracket very similiar to what the factory 24 volt alternator had, but just but a "Z" in it to get the distance i needed. sorry i dont have pictures of that yet, ill see if i can get some tonight. I have not wired it up yet or put the 12 volt battery in....thats tonights project!

Hey TM, got my brackets yesterday, Thanks! I was going back over this thread to see mountings and read about Your plasma table etc.......the other plates Your talking about (hydro, AC) are those going to be for a deuce?

I'm gonna be making them for a surcease.right now I'm working an a dual alt kit for the a3 and five ton. But I have a bunch of things in the works.I will be keeping everyone posted when I have new things ready to go

Hey guys I got tm america's alt bracket but I didn't see any part number for the new belt with my stuff. Can anyone hook me up? I need that tomorrow to get up and running.

the alt and belt can be had at autozone .the number for the alt is 7127.the numbers on the belt are 84550,6855,4L55,and l4550.It is a 55 inch long 1/2 inch wide belt

New to the forum. Just purchased a M923 for camping and logistics issue with a mining operation we have out in the desert. I was looking at installing a 12VDC system and came across this thread. I read they were being sold? How do I order one?

Gijoel I make a 12 volt kit for the m35a2.the m923 is a lot different.plus I believe they already have a 12 system on them.do a little research I am pretty sure they came with a dual voltage alt on them or some kind of invertor?..

I understand the dual voltage, but understand its only 20 amps. We will require more amps then that. (If I am in error, by all means please correct me). We plan to install a secondary battery bank of six 31 AGM. This will be the main power supply for the stereo, inverters, etc. As I mentioned in my previous posting, this rig will be used for camping, with the first trip being Burning Man. After that, to support hauling materials to a mining site. Can you forward me a link to your system?

I don't make a set up for them but i'm sure it could be done pretty easy ..They make some 140 amp 12 volt 10si alts and some that are even more.. A second 12 volt alt would probably be best for what you are looking to do .That way you could keep your add on wiring for the camper - rigging set up separate from what is needed to start and run the truck.

Lost in the bush when you install my 12volt kit it allows you to run 12 volt items on the deuce when it is running and charge a 12 volt battery that can run them when the truck is off.They do make a dual voltage alt that came on some mvs that is not to hard to adapt on to the deuce...but they are not cheap ...Prices start around 475 for a used one.. a new dual voltage alt goes for around 1700 bucks for the lower amp model.And as mentioned in this thread the 12 volt side is not rated for much load.
