It's hard not to love the old Herc's, real war horses if ever there were any. No glamor, but they just get the job done; everywhere and anywhere.
Didn't see any armament on the AC-130, are they removed before arrival?
I didn't realize that "AC-130" is the their gunship designation. I guess that IS their glamor role, bar none.

The C-130 is one of the most classic airframes of the entire world. I count myself lucky to have shipped aboard them at one time.

NATO's first E-3A AWACS (Airborne Warning and Control System) to retire made a scheduled landing today at Davis-Monthan AFB. NATO has operated and maintained LX-N 90449 since the early 1980s and decided to retire the airframe before its scheduled Depot Level Maintenance in July--saving nearly $17M. The aircraft will be placed in parts reclamation storage at AMARG where a team of NATO technicians will remove critical parts useful to NATO's remaining fleet of 16 aircraft. Thanks for the pics, nice to see they are still upgrading these great aircraft. Will be a truly sad day if/when they all return to your facility for permanent storage.

Sayonara BuNo 160020! This KC-130R, assigned to the Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 152 at MCAS Iwakuni, Japan prior to a 2005 retirement, returned to the air this week as a prelude to a new career with the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force. The sixth and last of the KC-130R JMSDF foreign military sales transfers, departed AMARG today for Tinker AFB, Okla. where it will undergo prep for some new paint at the Ogden Air Logistics Complex at Hill AFB, Utah. July 9, 2015

Two of the Polish-built LiMs stored at AMARG for more than 25 years, have departed for the Pueblo Weisbrod Aircraft Museum. LiM-2 (MiG-15), Serial No. 1B01205 and LiM-5 (MiG-17), Serial No. 1C1303 began their trek to Colorado via truck last Thursday, August 6, 2015. - August 11, 2015

A Priority Parts removal team assigned to the 577th Commodities and Reclamation Squadron (CMRS) at AMARG removes the last of four rudders required by the USAF.
