419 axles under a 404

I came across two steering 419 axles I'd like to put under my 404. The 404s have no air system on them. I'm not familiar with the 419s, or anything outside my 404 really. How much air is needed to assist in braking? Is it something a powertank could supply for a weekend? Is there an alternative way to hook them up?

The 419’s use dual calipers on the front axles. Given your (presumably) lighter weight, you could drop one caliper from each side and hook to your existing master cylinder. The 419 is air assist hydraulic, not air brakes.

The 419 brakes are a standard brake system...no air needed other than robbing the vacuum line you already have for your booster now. I would leave the 2nd front caliper installed depending on what size tire you are gonna run and how fast. I put a set of these axles on a Range Rover a few years back for a client and they felt better than the factory system ever did. This is a huge improvement of the the 404 drums you have in there now.
