5 ton Fifth Wheel Question

Hello everybody. I am new to this game. Here goes. I have an M818 that I think has the fifth wheel off an M819. I think this because the release is a long bar not a normal pull handle. THe pictures in TM 9-2320-260-34-2 for the 819 look more like the hitch on my truck. My question is this. Is there a source for repair parts for these or does anybody know the brand and model used? The problem is the jaws in mine are not level and they are kind of loose in there. They don't buckle up like they should. By the way, is it strange that the fifth wheels could get mixed from one truck to another? THanks

I have several M818's and there are (3) different fifth wheels that I have noticed on them (all except (1) came from the MO National Guard).

1.) the one with the bar release as you have described.
2.) the one shown in the TM.
3.) a new style fifth wheel, made by Holland called the "Kompensator".

As for repair parts, it'd probably be cheaper to buy a take-off from someone who has an M818 and has removed it (there is/was one in the classifieds for approx $200, I believe).

Take pictures of it, and take them to a heavy truck store. There is nothing mysterious about the fifth wheels. There have been numerous styles used over the years. I am sure that repair kits are readily availiable. They do wear, and DOT does measure them on occasion. The Guys at the store will be able to identify them.

Welcome to the site.

Any idea on the brand and model of the one with the bat release?
