I am trying for some info about which series of trucks come from factory with aluminium ones and which with steel ones ?

M39 series seems to have aluminium ones , not sure for the rest...

TM 9-2320-260-34-2 (6/94) states the following :

16-5. FRONT WINCH ROLLER MAINTENANCE (Contd)

NOTE

Aluminum roller brackets must be replaced by steel brackets on
winch model 7411122 (wrecker winch - front)

National Stock Number:

2590-00-741-1122

National Item Identification Number:
007411122

Description:
WINCH ASY FRONT

So it seems that later 5-ton wreckers must be upgrade to steel ones...But how about for the rest of W/W trucks ?

All of my M series 5 tons have aluminum. We have never broken one, even pulling at about a 45 degree angle laterally briefly to free the stuck truck. I have never seen a steel set so I cannot offer an opinion of preference.
