I like YouTube videos for explanations as well. Long and Short of it, if all of the glow plugs are drawing from the batteries the stock system works well. That's why Curtisje measured 24 plus volts at each end of the resistor bank, no load was placed on it. It gets complicated because the glow plugs are resistors and the resistor bank converts 24 volts to 12 once a designed load get's placed on it. Now let's simplify and learn Ohm's Law, watch the video and we can quickly ascertain why supplying the glow plug solenoid 12 volts is a smart idea and eliminates the "cascading effect" on the glow plugs.
