Well, poked around a bit, got a line on a “kit engine” meaning clean, all parts ready for easy assembly.
Cheap.
Engine block # 12555506, date cole H020 (Aug 02, 2000).
So far as I can tell this is far beyond the cracking blocks/bolt hole problems, don’t know about the heads. Doubt they’re GEP/optimizer (but these are available in sets for $600-1200 depending on source/new, etc.
”Kit engine” I’m looking at is only four Benjamins.
Add a harness, maybe a few ancillaries, headers/intake, off the 6.2L, I’ve got a new engine ready for installation/break in.
Curious if anyone, off hand, knows if this will marry up to a TH400 bell housing (currently connected to a 6.2L NA 14022660 mfd 11/1990).
Pitfalls?
More trouble than it’s worth? Wishful thinking?
As usual, appreciate any/all input/feedback/constructive criticism.
Alternative is finding a (an allegedly) low mileage engine/drivetrain, and I’m seeing these in the $1600-4500 range lately.
Here’s the thing - to preempt several nonstarter comments I’ve gotten in other posts. Engines seem to be the weak link in these trucks. I plan/hope to keep mine for several more years/decades.
Having a “spare” just makes sense to me and I’ll have the space to store one “pickled” (like a blueprinted 454 my brother once kept on hand, finally using it in a Fury III he tricked out).
Thanks in advance.
