Any advice where to locate a surplus 6CTA8.3 new/rebuild? Many on govliquidation but all look to be pulled so likely needing need rebuild.

Local FD has an engine with a 6CTA8.3 with a trashed block. They have no $ to go down to Cummins to buy a rebuild.

Govliquation had several new ones and lots of reman ones.
Also lots of pulled "as is" ones
It was around 30-40 engines I think.

This was at the GL OKC main warehouse a few weeks ago.

Keep an eye out. There might be more.

From the few I looked at anywhere from $500 to 3k

The new ones had everything ready to go. Turbo and alternator etc.
Remans too
Used ones, while some were complete,
were missing various accessories.

All were bolted in containers and GL noted that the engine would turn freely.
Every listing said that

So at least you knew it wasn't locked up

Get a block from 98 and an in-frame kit from internet for $1000 and have at it. You won't be able to refresh a diesel back to good health for any cheaper than that.

concur on rebuild as well. make sure you get "cummins shop manual C series engine" "bulletin no. 3810275-00 9/86. its step by step take apart and rebuild instructions and pics. kinda like a haynes or chitons manual. take head to machine shop for rebuild, and send out injectors for rebuild or just replace.
