Hello,

We are currently restoring an M51 A2 dump truck. We would like to paint it in the 7 color camouflage that has been in use in Germany since the 70s. Does anyone have any experience with painting this camouflage? Does anyone have the technical bulletin with the color, marking and camouflage painting paterns and the exact color numbers (or the NSN numbers)? And does anyone happen to have a picture of a 7 color camouflage dump truck?

Thank you in advance. Greetings.

7 color is a new one on me. are you referring to merdec? its got more colors in smaller patterns than the standard 3 color and has numerous variations depending on local terrain

In the 1970s we used MERDC camo which at times had 4 colors in it - light green, forest green, sand and black. I have never heard of 7-color camo.

The only thing near 7 color that i can think of is the early 90's vintage chocolate chip bdu but it wasnt done on us vehicles. Not positive that it was a full 7 color tho. Maybe foreign?

Even chocolate chip is 5 color; black, white, sand, brown and khaki. Never heard of 7 either.

7-vs-4 color cam

In the 1970s we used MERDC camo which at times had 4 colors in it - light green, forest green, sand and black. I have never heard of 7-color camo.
The confusion may be since there were 7 patterns that used the 4 color templates.

The templates used only 4 colours, but there were 12 available to choose from depending on local conditions (White, Desert sand, Sand, Earth yellow, Earth red, Earth brown, Field drab, Olive drab, Light green, Dark green, Forest green, Black)

There was also solid white as a pattern in the TM for use in the arctic.
