guys, I've searched all the posts and can't find the whole answer. What do I need to swap a 700r4 into my M 1008? Do I need a different shorter or longer trans to NP208 adapter? Surely someone has done this before. Anyone who has the details on this please give me a hand. I appreciate.

You will need a different 208 adapter, as well as a different input shaft for the 208. I did this in my 1009 this summer. I cant remember if I posted anything on it or not.

The 700r4 out of a 4x4 has the longer input shaft so just get one from a 4x4.

I believe the adapter is the same as the TH350. I've also read something about tall or short. So it's a Tall 700r4 / TH 350 adapter.

I can't remember if the adapter is the same for a 203 and 208 though.

I do have for sale a 4x4 700r4 and adapter for a 203/ TH350.

I'm in Los Angeles, 90038. If you are close (shipping  ) and interested PM me

Calling Mangus...

mike...When you put the 700r into your truck, what did you do for a starter?
I ask cause' i assume that a switch to the 700r flex plate, means a difference in the tooth count...so the starter for the thm-400 flexplate wouldn't mesh properly.

What did you have to switch to keep it 24-volt,and mesh with the teeth on the 700 flex?

Thanks...mike.

Will need the bracket for the TV cable, and the cable of course. Also will need to look at some of the TCC wiring methods. All pretty simple though.

trans swap...

The adapter mounting on the trans is the same pattern as the thm-350.to swap to an np-208,you'll need an np-208 to 350 adapter and a 4x4 700r,as well as an x-case input shaft suitable for a thm-350 output (27 spline).mind that the trans output-shaft length ("stickout")has to match.

i think that the 700r to np-241 adapter has the same x-case-side pattern as the np-208,but the trans output shaft length is different.if this is true,an np-241 adapter might make your lif easier.
or,keep the 700r and np-241 combo (passenger side drop) together, and put that combo in.i think they were found in blazers and suburbans, though only for 3 or 4 years.i believe the 241 is somewhat stronger than a 208.

If you like spending money...call advance adapters.
www.advanceadapters.com

they sell stuff to put any case you like behind a 700r.a browse through thier on-line catalog will give you a better idea on what you need.

A few questions here can make the swap easier.

RE: Calling Mangus...

Same starter. The only difference in the flex plate is the bolt pattern for the torque converter. The outside diameter and the gear teeth are the same.

Has anyone done this lately? I want to get better millage and better highway speeds.
What gearing do you have to go to? or is it a swap?

I have done this recently, mine is up running. I am going though debug with the turbo & tranny swap at the moment. hardest thing to come by is the TV cable bracket that sits in the valley although ibelieve you can use a universal bracket by TCI

mine came off a 93 3/4 ton county truck in a junk yard .. If you look the rear driver side of the motor, on the head inside the valley under the intake.. It mounted to the cap thingy on the head

My 700R4 swap starts tomorrow, but I am having the local transmission shop do it.

They are providing a freshly rebuilt 700R4 built for towing with a warranty, the transfer case with proper input shaft, TV cable and bracket, and doing the install all for $1600.

I have read some say this swap leaves you with high gears and lacks towing power and sluggish off the line. Is this true? If so I imagine the turbo will make up the difference.

I am looking at the gear vendor. perhaps that is better for towing giving you 6 gears in high and low range. It clearly cost more too.

Anyone that tells you that is not very smart. The 700R4 has a lower first gear than the TH400. While a gear vender does split the gears it still lacks in the overdrive department. The 700R4 has a .70 over drive! The cost of a trans and the swap by most transmission places will still be cheaper than just purchasing a new Gear Vendors unit.

look on cracklist, I see 700r4 on there for $100-200 all day long. There cheap to build up also, with a few simple upgrades they can handle 300-400 H.P. I just got 2 of them for free will be installing them in mine.
