A little backstory,
Bought this 802 with 40 hours a couple years ago. Oregon rebuild. County got it DRMO. Both injection pumps were bad, I ordered new ones and it sat in my garage for a long time. Decided to get it going to sell or use in a camper build.
Installed new pumps and among other maintenance, started up and engine ran away. Been a long time since I had a runaway engine, and the last one was because of oil consumption in the cylinders. Choking the intake only worked the first time, second time I choked the intake and exhaust, by the third time I realized it was a fuel issue and just loosened the injection pump lines.
After the second or third time I verified the fuel shut off was correctly in the governor rod and found that there was some odd play and movement in the rod.
Ultimately I found that the governor rod would move so far forward that it would disconnect from the tang on each injection pump. When the unit was turned on, the electric shutoff would pull the rod back, touching the tang on the injection pump, causing max fuel delivery, with no way to shut off the unit procedurally since the rod was disconnected. The fix was partially by adjusting the fuel shut off resting bolt to limit travel.
When I took off the cover, I also found that multiple washers were causing misalignment.
