802A parts gen

So I got a gen at the auction thinking it looked rough enough it might be a good parts gen. I paid a bit much for a parts gen but with the price of parts it should wash pretty quick. Well after about 15 minutes with my meter and some hand tools it's running making power and sounds pretty good except that most of its casing screws are missing but when I hold enough parts down to stop most of the rattles it's pretty smooth. I think I'm addicted to troubleshooting and fixing these but I really need to let some go.

How do I condemn a gen to parts when it wants to do it's job? I posted one 10k on FB locally but am getting very little interest. I guess the people around here don't realize how awesome these are. I'm not trying to make a business so much as tinker at stuff I enjoy. How do I find these gens good homes where they will be appreciated? I have 5 and 10kw gens and even one 15. A 3 kw that's kicking my but right now but I'll win eventually.

I think we don't lose power enough around here to make backup power a priority for people. I guess if you don't know the difference 10kw in an 1100 pound machine seems kind of crazy when you can go to Home Depot and get a 13.5kw 250lb machine for $1000. Oh well I'm having fun and if the power goes out I have lots of options.

It would have to be infeasable to repair before I would strip it for parts (Blown engine, bad winding) even then, I had a 002 with a bad crank and since I had a spare engine, It was replaced. Now one day Ill pull that engine down and have some parts.

Tough call though. Guess theres a reason I have a few on my shop.

If you just have to sell it, open a for sale thread. There is a special forum for it and I would suggest you go to the Site Rules and give them a good look through. This forum is a good place to sell one.

The aftermarket business has slowed down for us as well since the end of 2021.
Most residential business was taken over by Generac with their LPG gensets and their sales people who scared the customers into signing extended service contracts and getting the Genset and ATS at a discount……

That's just sad, but I've seen evidence of downturn for a long time now. I had an 802a on Marketplace for weeks at half the price of other units and only got two scammers. Ended up selling it to an acquaintance for his off-grid cabin.

I guess I better stop buying gens. I've been telling my wife is can sell them if I want to. Ha ha. I was working a lot of hours and was collecting projects cause I enjoy fixing things. Most of them I bought as non running machines. From what I've seen I've gotten really lucky and they have all needed minor things. I've brought them home gotten them running and ordered parts to fix them.

I haven't needed the money so I haven't been worried about getting rid of them. My wife has given me some raised eyebrows. So that job ended and I've had time to work on these and test them and been having fun for a month. I bought this last one thinking I could steel enough parts for the finishing touches on my pile of gens. Now that I got it running and producing electricity I can't turn it into parts. Heck it's got low hours.

So now I get to spend some hours making this gen look good and work good. But thanks for telling me these things I will stop bidding. So I have one 803 power plant. I'm pretty sure I'm keeping that one. I have two 10k gens on trailers one 5k on a trailer two now without trailers. A 15kw on trailer and the 3k. So 9 gens. Lol. I've been telling my wife I'll sell them when I get time. She knows I've had time lately. Oh well I've only listed the one so far so I can still say I haven't tried very hard to sell them.

All run and make power only two aren't ready to go. It's been fun leaning about these gens and if we have a major power outage I can make our whole street run.
